Abstract

This study aims at describing a model of andragogical development implemented by the leaders of Toriqoh Naqsabandiyah Jabal Qubis to empower their followers’ spirit to work. It is conducted at the non-formal institution of Naqsabandiyah Jabal Qubis by using phenomenological qualitative approach. The data of this research consist of the results of observation, deep interview, and focus group discussion. The data sources of this study are the top leader, the big chaliph, the old chaliph, and the young caliph. The data were analysed by the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana’s (2014) technique namely data condensation, data display, dan verification. The trustworthiness of this study is established through source and methodological triangulations. The findings of this research show that a model of andragogical development in empowering the followers’ spirit is applied through 4 steps : planning, developing, evaluating, doing follow-up, as well as their impacts.

Abstract

This research aimed to examine the impact of using the film-watching method on tenth-grade students' achievement in writing narrative paragraphs at SMA Negeri 1 Panai Hulu. The study utilized an experimental research design, involving a population of 40 students from two classes. Data collection was conducted through a test, selecting classes X-A and X-B, each consisting of 20 students, as the sample. Class X-A served as the control group, while class X-B was the experimental group. The data was analyzed using statistical formulas and Microsoft Excel 2013, with a significance level set at 0.05. The results indicated that (1) students who used the film-watching method had a mean score of 52.25 with a standard deviation of 61.25 in writing narrative paragraphs, and (2) students using the conventional strategy had a mean score of 55.25 with a standard deviation of 70.26. The observed t-value was 4.881, which is greater than the critical t-value of 1.701 at a degree of freedom (df) = 38. This result led to the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha) and rejection of the null hypothesis (Ho), indicating a significant effect of the film-watching method on students’ ability to write narrative paragraphs.

Abstract

Reading is one of the subjects to get information and knowledge about everything readers need from the wrnitten form. Reading comprehension is the ability to drive meaning from written material. Readers are considered successful when they understand the meaning intended by the writer. Main purpose behind reading is to make connections between what you already know and what you need to know. Knowing why you are reading will greatly increase your chances of understanding the material. In the context of this study, scanning is seen as the most potential strategy to be applied for students’ reading comprehension. This research was conducted on March 2023/2024 academic year. The subject in this research is the students of eight grades at SMP Swasta IT Ikhwanul Muslimin located on Bandar Klippa, Percut Sei Tuan, and Deli serdang regency. This research used quantitative method. Experimental research method as a technique used to determine the impact of specific treatments. This study use experimental design with two classes they are an experimental class and control class. The research participants were eighth-grade students from SMP Swasta IT Ikhwanul Muslimin. There are two classes of eighth- grade students consist of 49 students. The result of Post-Test in experimental class showed significant effect with the pre-test and post-test in the experimental class whose pre-test score with a minimum of 32 and a maximum of 68 with a mean of 52 while in the post-test 64 minimum score, and a maximum score of 96 with a score of 82.31 as the mean score. The results prove that scanning method has a significant impact on Students' reading comprehension at SMP Swasta IT Ikhwanul Muslimin.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of using ChatGPT on students' writing skills, especially simple sentences in English. The background of this study is based on students' still low ability to write sentences with correct structure and grammar, especially in the use of Simple Present Tense. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design of the pretest-post-test control group design. The research sample consisted of two eighth grade classes at MTsS YMPI Tanjungbalai, namely class VIII-1 as the experimental class learning using ChatGPT and class VIII-2 as the control class learning using conventional methods, each consisting of 30 students. Data were collected through writing tests given before and after the treatment. The results of the analysis showed that the average post-test score of the experimental class was higher than the control class, and the t-test produced a significance value of 0.000 <0.05. This indicates a significant difference between the two groups. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of ChatGPT has a positive and significant effect on improving students' ability to write simple English sentences, especially in understanding the basic structure of Subject-Verb-Object and the application of Simple Present Tense.
