<![CDATA[Abstract. Poor oral and dental health will impact aspects of a child's quality of life such as speaking and chewing, thus affecting BMI. Body Mass Index (BMI) is also used as a risk factor for early detection of a person's health or the prevalence of several health problems, one of which is dental caries. Dental caries is a disease caused by multifactorial etiology and attacks the hard tissue of the teeth, resulting in demineralization of tooth enamel. The aim of this research is to determine the description of Body Mass Index and dental caries in grade 5 and 6 children at SDN 042 Gambir Bandung in 2023. This research uses a quantitative analysis method with a cross sectional approach using nonprobability sampling technique. Data collection used direct examinations for BMI by researchers and dental examinations by dentists directly at elementary schools. The results of the research using univariate test analysis were obtained from 74 students of SDN 042 Gambir Bandung. The research results showed that 47 students (63.5%) were underweight. Food choices influence BMI and many other factors that cause dental caries, such as frequent consumption of sweet foods and drinks, children who do not maintain oral and dental hygiene, how to brush their teeth, frequency of brushing their teeth and socio-economic factors. Abstrak. Kesehatan gigi dan mulut yang buruk akan berdampak pada aspek kualitas hidup anak seperti bicara dan mengunyah sehingga berpengaruh terhadap IMT. Indeks Massa Tubuh (IMT) juga digunakan sebagai faktor risiko untuk mendeteksi secara dini tentang kesehatan seseorang atau prevalensi beberapa kesehatan masalah seseorang, salah satunya adalah karies gigi. Karies gigi merupakan penyakit yang disebabkan oleh etiologi multifaktorial dan menyerang jaringan keras pada gigi sehingga akan terjadi demineralisasi enamel gigi. Tujuan penelitian ini mengetahui gambaran Indeks Massa Tubuh dengan karies gigi pada anak kelas 5 dan 6 di SDN 042 Gambir Bandung Tahun 2023. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis kuantitatif dengan pendekatan cross sectional menggunakan teknik pemilihan sampel nonprobability sampling. Pengumpulan data menggunaikain pemeriksaiain laingsung untuk IMT oleh peneliti dain pemeriksaiain gigi oleh dokter gigi secairai laingsung di SD. Hasil penelitian menggunakan analisis uji univariat diperoleh dari 74 siswa SDN 042 Gambir Bandung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa yang memiliki berat badan kurang (underweight) sebanyak 47 orang (63,5%). Pemilihan makanan berpengaruh terhadap IMT dan banyak faktor-faktor lain penyebab dari karies gigi seperti seringnya mengkonsumsi makanan dan minuman manis, anak-anak yang kurang menjaga kebersihan gigi dan mulut, cara menyikat gigi, frekuensi menyikat gigi dan dari faktor sosio-ekonomi.]]>
