Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of knowing and explaining the representation of thuggery shown in the Loz Jogjakartoz short movie. Thuggery is one of the most familiar issues in Indonesia. This research is a qualitative research using analysis technique Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. The results of this research are the analysis denotative, connotative, and mythological meanings. In addition to a thug, thuggis behavior is also demonstrated by detective and liquor seller. The representation of thuggery in the Loz Jogjakartoz short movie depicts thugs who do not look exactly like the stereotypical image of thugs understood by society, which is that thugs must have tattoos, piercing, long hair, behave rudely, get drunk, and wear leather jackets. However in this movie, the representation of thuggery is only shown through aspects of having piercing, wear leather jacket, and behaving rudely.

Abstract

The 2024 Paris Olympics has had controversies such as a boxer suspected of being transgender taking part in the Olympics and rules prohibiting the use of the hijab for French athletes. The aim of this research is to analyze the framing of controversy at the 2024 Paris Olympics in the online media CNN Indonesia and Republika. This research uses a qualitative analysis method with Robert N Entman's framing analysis which consists of problem definition, source of the problem, moral decisions taken, and problem resolution. This research uses articles released from 18 July to 1 August 2024 on CNN Indonesia and Republika. The results of this research explain that the difference between CNN Indonesia and Republika is that CNN Indonesia tends to be neutral and provides justification for decisions taken by related parties. Meanwhile, Republika emphasized criticism and highlighted aspects of discrimination in these two issues. The difference in reporting on the controversial issue of female boxers is that CNN Indonesia is more inclined to support these athletes and the role of athletes by emphasizing personal rights that free athletes to take part in any competition, whereas in Republika they are more likely to discuss criticizing policies taken by certain authorities. On the issue of banning the use of the hijab by French Muslim female athletes, CNN Indonesia emphasized the word proselytism which France wanted to prevent and explained that the rule forbidding the use of the hijab only applies to France, while Republika explained that this rule exists because of Islamophobia and racism, thus demanding that the IOC this rule can be omitted.

Abstract

The research aims to understand how the representation of struggle is depicted through the journey faced by the main character in the film Gran Turismo. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, as well as a semiotic analysis method by John Fiske using his Three Codes of Television, which divides social codes into three levels: the level of reality, the level of representation, and the level of ideology. Data collection was conducted through non-participant observation, with documentation in the form of screen captures. The results of this research include analyses of the level of reality, the level of representation, and the level of ideology. The level of reality is derived from several aspects, including gesture codes, expression codes, conversation codes, and behavior codes. The analysis of the level of reality in this film shows that the character Jann is portrayed as having a focused and patient attitude when facing problems. The level of representation analyzes scenes through audiovisual elements such as camera techniques, lighting, editing, music, and sound. The analysis of the level of representation in this film highlights the importance of aspects that support the film's appearance, making it more engaging and effectively conveying its message. The level of ideology analyzes the story presented in the film to determine the ideological concepts contained within it. The analysis of the level of ideology in this film reveals that the struggles of the main character against the currents of simplicity to become a professional racer illustrate that the film conveys a liberalism ideology, where liberalism represents the concept of individual freedom, particularly to become what one desires.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk menganalisis tentang resepsi atau penerimaan penonton terhadap isi pesan feminisme pada series gadis kretek. Film kerap kali dijadikan sebagai media untuk menyampaikan pesan-pesan tertentu dalam mempersuasi masyarakat terhadap suatu isu. Pada penelitian ini menggunakan teori resepsi dari stuart hall yang dimana membagi penonton pada tiga bagian dalam memaknai pesan media yaitu, Posisi Hegemoni, Negosiasi dan Posisi Oposisi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan cara mendeskripsikan hasil penelitian menggunakan teori resepsi dari Stuart Hall dengan menggunakan purpusive sampling dalam menentukan sampel penelitian ini. Terdapat sepuluh orang responden yang di wawancarai yang terdiri dari lima orang perempuan dan lima orang laki-laki. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat lima orang informan berada pada posisi hegemoni, terdapat dua orang informan berada pada posisi negosiasi, dan terdapat tiga orang informan berada pada posisi oposisi. Informan lebih banyak menyetujui isi pesan yang disampaikan pada series Gadis Kretek yaitu feminisme, namun ada yang menyetujui maknanya tetapi untuk penerapan dalam kehidupan sehari-sehari berbeda, dan bahkan ada yang menolak isi pesan tersebut dan membuat isi pesannya sendiri.

Abstract

The form of Dancow's efforts in marketing its products is by advertising or displaying its product advertisements on Youtube social media. Where this ad shows how the affection of a woman as a mother who has a visual impairment (blind) is doing domestic work starting from taking care of children, cooking, preparing lunch and a cup of milk. In general, in Indonesia, stereotypes of women have a very limited role in the domestic sphere, often women are only considered as housekeepers. The purpose of this study is to analyze the description of the representation of domestic roles in the Dancow advertisement version (My mother is different, but #LoveBundaSempurna). The data analysis method used in this research uses Roland Barthes semiotic analysis technique. Based on the discussion and analysis that has been carried out on the advertisement, it is found that there are signs regarding the representation of the domestic role of a mother. Where in this advertisement clearly shows that women have a limited role in the domestic sphere. In fact, this stereotype is true, that advertisements in Indonesia in general often depict or represent the limited role of women in the domestic sphere. It can be concluded that what Indonesian society sees from a woman is that they are more concerned with women in the domestic concept. Abstrak Bentuk upaya Dancow dalam memasarkan produknya yaitu dengan cara memasang iklan atau menampilkan iklan produknya di media sosial Youtube, dimana iklan ini menampilkan bagaimana kasih sayang perempuan sebagai seorang ibu yang mempunyai keterbatasan penglihatan (tuna netra) sedang mengerjakan pekerjaan diranah domestik mulai dari mengurus anak, memasak, menyiapkan bekal dan secangkir susu. Secara umum di Indonesia stereotipe perempuan memiliki peranan sangat terbatas diranah domestik, Seringkali perempuan hanya dianggap sebagai pengurus rumah tangga saja. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis gambaran representasi peran domestik dalam iklan Dancow versi (Bundaku beda, tapi #CintaBundaSempurna). Metode analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik analisis semiotika Roland Barthes. Berdasarkan dari pembahasan serta analisis yang telah dilakukan pada iklan tersebut dihasilkan bahwa iklan tersebut terdapat adanya tanda mengenai representasi peran domestik seorang ibu, dimana dalam iklan ini jelas menunjukan bahwa perempuan memiliki peran yang terbatas di ranah domestik. Pada kenyataanya stereotipe tersebut benar adanya, bahwasannya iklan-iklan di Indonesia pada umumnya seringkali menggambarkan atau merepresentasikan peran perempuan terbatas diranah domestik. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa apa yang dilihat oleh masyarakat Indonesia dari seorang perempuan yaitu mereka lebih mementingkan perempuan dalam ranah domestik.
