Abstract

The nutritional biofloc aquaponics system is a mutualism symbiosis between fish farming techniques and hydroponic plant cultivation. This system is an implementation of the spirit of urban farming and grow your own, which provides an answer to the limited land owned by urban communities as well as an effort to build food security for urban communities. This study aims to determine the effect of using biofloc catfish pond water and AB mix solution and the combination of the two for aquaponic cultivation of caisim, pakchoy, and kailan. Utilization of biofloc pond water and AB mix solution at a ratio of 1: 1 was able to provide the highest growth parameters in the form of plant height, number of leaves, and fresh weight for both caisim, pakchoy, and kailan plants. Biofloc catfish pond water can be used as a substitute for AB mix solution for aquaponic cultivation of caisim, pakchoy, and kailan. Keyword : biofloc catfish pond water, caisim, pakchoy, kailan

Abstract

The Indonesian Open University currently operates an information service called Hallo UT, which mainly provides academic and administrative information. To improve this service, this study develops a virtual assistant chatbot capable of delivering autonomous 24-hour customer support using a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) approach. RAG combines information retrieval techniques with large language model capabilities to generate accurate and contextually relevant responses. Data were collected from academic manuals containing frequently asked questions and questionnaires distributed to 76 students. The chatbot was evaluated based on accuracy, response time, and user satisfaction. Results show that the system achieved an average accuracy rate of 92% with an average response time of 5 seconds. In addition, 62% of students responded positively to the chatbot’s functionality. These findings demonstrate the chatbot’s potential to improve student engagement, reduce administrative workload, and enhance the overall learning experience. Future research should involve larger samples, multilingual support, and broader system integration.

Abstract

Hydroponic cultivation has emerged as a strategic approach in community empowerment initiatives, particularly in contexts characterized by limited land availability, declining soil fertility, and constrained access to conventional agricultural practices. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a hydroponic training program in enhancing participants’ knowledge and readiness to adopt soilless cultivation techniques. A pretest and posttest design was employed to assess ten indicators encompassing fundamental hydroponic concepts, system typologies, nutrient management, and critical plant growth parameters. The findings revealed substantial improvements in participants’ knowledge, as evidenced by markedly higher post-test scores across all indicators. Significant gains were observed in participants’ understanding of suitable crop selection, optimal pH regulation, nutrient solution management, and the appropriate use of measurement instruments. Importantly, these enhanced competencies were translated into practical implementation, with participants, particularly members of the PKK group, successfully establishing hydroponic systems, conducting harvesting activities, and commercializing their produce through local bazaars. This outcome underscores the program’s tangible contribution to small-scale food production and the generation of supplementary household income. Taken together, the study demonstrates that structured and practice-oriented hydroponic training effectively strengthens technical capacity while fostering community empowerment and sustainable livelihood development
