Abstract

This research addresses to analyze Eurocentrism in “Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative. Data were classified into primary and supporting data. The primary data were mainly from the Conrad’s Heart of Darkness. The supporting data were from books, articles, and journals related to colonialism perspective. The design of this research focuses in revealing the colonial life in Conrad’s Heart of Darkness through Eurocentrism perspective. The result of this research is this colonization actually begun not only by economy factor but also it is empowered by creating discourse about such colonized country. Colonial discourse means how the west, colonizer or conquer create opinion to legitimate their conquest. This discourse also explains how the Europe (colonizer) constructs their identity and their colonized. This constructing creates binary-opposition judgment where in this novel through Marlow (as main character) depict that Europe’s colonization is based on their negative stereotyping. It is stated that the native Congo is wilder, cannibal, uncivilized and so on. So, at Marlow’s spirit in early they (colonizer) desire to civilize them (the native).

Abstract

This study examines the types of societal alienation displayed through main character in the 1996 novel "Fight Club" written by Chuck Palahniuk. The novel follows the story of Jack, an insomniac who forms a fight club with Tyler Durden, a charismatic and mysterious figure. The study employs a qualitative analysis of the novel’s narrative and characters to explore how societal alienation is portrayed and its impact on the main characters. The data consists of primary and supporting data. The researcher collected data through watching and reading the movie and movie transcript thoroughly. The researcher used sociological theory, and identifying relevant issues that align with the research questions. The researcher also utilized a qualitative research design and employed document or content analysis as the research method. Based on the research results some societal alienation types are portrayed by the main character such as self-isolation, estrangement, and normlessness.

Abstract

Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kedisiplinan siswa dan efektivitas penanganan pelanggaran yang dilakukan oleh siswa melalui penerapan sistem monitoring berbasis pesan. Melalui program ini, pendampingan dan pelatihan akan diberikan kepada guru serta staf sekolah agar mereka mampu mengoperasikan sistem secara mandiri. Pendekatan ini juga berfokus pada pemberdayaan masyarakat, dengan melibatkan pihak sekolah sebagai mitra dalam pengembangan dan penerapan sistem monitoring tersebut. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian ini terdiri dari 5 tahapan yaitu : identifikasi masalah dan penentuan solusi, persiapan dan penerapan sistem, implementasi sistem, pelatihan dan pendampingan penggunaan sistem dan evaluasi pelaksanaan program. Alat evaluasi kegiatan menggunakan kuesioner pre-test dan post-test yang diolah dengan analisis deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan adanya peningkatan kemampuan teknis guru dalam menggunakan sistem monitoring kedisiplinan siswa dan terbentu standar guru dalam melakukan pengawasan dan tindakan terhadap pelanggaran yang dilakukan siswa. Pelaksanaan kegiatan juga mendapatkan tanggapan dan atusias positif pihak sekolah hal ini bisa dilihat dari banyaknya guru dan staff yang hadir saat kegiatan pengabdian. Hasil evaluasi kegiatan pengabdian menunjukan bahwa setelah kegiatan pengabdian terjadi peningkatan kemapuan teknis peserta yang sangat baik dan signifikan. Selain itu, setelah sistem monitoring berbasis pesan diterapkan terjadi penurunan tingkat pelanggaran yang terjadi dikelas.
