Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of teaching pronunciation through phonetic symbols at The English Course in Sidrap. The research aims to describe the instructional process, assess student responses, and identify tutor strategies for overcoming pronunciation challenges. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, using interviews, observations, documentation, and questionnaires for data collection. The findings reveal that the course utilized a direct method combined with a reading aloud technique, supported by tools such as whiteboards, speakers, Oxford dictionaries, and module books. Students faced challenges with mother tongue interference, particularly in distinguishing vowel sounds. However, the incorporation of phonetic symbols, motivational strategies, and interactive techniques, such as songs, contributed to a positive learning experience. Tutors addressed difficulties by providing additional support materials and motivational strategies. The study concludes that teaching pronunciation using phonetic symbols can significantly improve learners' pronunciation skills when combined with engaging teaching strategies and continuous evaluation.

Abstract

This study explores the challenges faced by law students in Sidrap Regency when learning Legal English, with a specific focus on the roles of vocabulary acquisition and student motivation. Legal English, as a specialized form of language used in the legal profession, poses unique learning challenges, particularly in terms of its complex terminology and concepts. The research highlights how a limited vocabulary can hinder students' understanding and application of legal texts, while also examining the impact of motivation on the learning process. Through a mixed-methods approach, the study gathers data from both surveys and interviews with law students in Sidrap Regency, aiming to uncover the strategies employed to overcome these obstacles and the factors that influence their motivation. The findings suggest that while vocabulary expansion is crucial, fostering intrinsic motivation through relevant teaching methods and a supportive learning environment can significantly enhance students' engagement and proficiency in Legal English. This research contributes to the understanding of effective pedagogical approaches in teaching Legal English to law students in regional contexts

Abstract

The governance of music festivals in Indonesia is undergoing a paradigm shift driven by rising demands for legal compliance, risk management, and sustainability. This study investigates the integration of these three dimensions within the context of Indonesian music festivals, drawing from qualitative case studies, regulatory analysis, and international best practices. The objective is to develop a scalable framework that aligns operational safety, environmental responsibility, and legal adherence. Methodologically, the research employs a qualitative design, focusing on in depth case analyses of three Indonesian festivals Java Jazz, Synchronize, and Joyland. Data were gathered through document reviews, stakeholder interviews, and thematic analysis of relevant laws and standards, including PP 56/2021, PP 109/2012, UU 27/2022, ISO 20121, and the Event Safety Guide. The results highlight effective practices in operational risk management, including the use of Safety Cells, tabletop drills, and digital monitoring tools. Sustainability efforts show traction in waste reduction, renewable energy usage, and vendor accountability, guided by ISO aligned practices. However, legal compliance remains inconsistent due to enforcement gaps and low regulatory literacy among organizers. Stakeholders such as sponsors, artists, and audiences significantly influence accountability, while public policy and interdisciplinary research emerge as enablers of broader adoption. This study concludes that an integrated governance model uniting compliance, risk, and sustainability is essential for the long term viability of Indonesian festivals. The proposed framework not only improves operational performance but also fosters public trust, stakeholder alignment, and environmental stewardship.
