The research employs a qualitative approach, conducting a content analysis of the Evangelii Gaudium document and supplementary secondary literature to explore the implications of formation in religious interactions. The study identifies formation as a critical tool for enhancing dialogue, underscoring its necessity for fostering a deeper understanding and mutual respect among religious communities. It highlights the integration of daily life interactions and structured faith formation programmes as vital for practising the theological insights in real-world settings. This research contributes a methodological framework for assessing the practical impacts of religious teachings on interfaith dialogue and suggests ways to improve these interactions through targeted educational efforts. The findings advocate for ongoing dialogue initiatives that are informed by robust formation processes to sustain peaceful coexistence in diverse societies.

Abstract

This article reveals the religious dynamics of Manggarai and the contribution of the Ruteng Diocese Church in developing the concept and movement of religious moderation in the West Flores region through the integral ecological pastoral programme in 2024. The main question to be sought in this research is how far the religious community in Manggarai (Islam, Catholicism and local belief) shows religious moderation and how the value of religious moderation is developed in the integral ecological pastoral programme. By using qualitative methods with participatory observation research instruments, as well as data analysis through Nurcholis Madjid's thinking framework about passing-over, the author finds that first, basically a moderate society Manggarai is realized when Catholicism breaks away from exclusivism tendencies; second, Manggarai Catholicism was formed from adherents of Islam and local beliefs; and third, the Manggarai Catholic developed the concept and movement of religious moderation in its integral ecological pastoral programme through environmental education and advocacy activities involving all religious communities, which is why the term eco-moderation emerged. Eco-moderation activities are carried out in Muslim center areas such as Papagarang Island, Komodo District, Labuan Bajo, Reo, and Pota, East Manggarai. Through the integral ecological pastoral programme, the Church of Ruteng Diocese is passing-over and at the same time directing religious communities to move beyond religion and religiosity, namely to become post-religious humans. Keywords: Religious Moderation, Catholicism, The catholic church of Ruteng Diocese Tulisan ini mengungkap dinamika keagamaan Manggarai dan kontribusi Gereja Keuskupan Ruteng dalam mengembangkan konsep dan gerakan moderasi beragama di wilayah Flores Barat melalui program pastoral ekologi integral tahun 2024. Melalui program pastoral ekologi integral, Gereja Keuskupan Ruteng berpassing-over sekaligus mengarahkan komunitas agama-agama agar bergerak melampaui agama dan keagamaan, yaitu menjadi manusia pasca agama. Kata-kata kunci: moderasi beragama, katolisisme, Gereja Katolik Keuskupan Ruteng

Abstract

The Catholic Church is over 100 years old in Manggarai, Flores, Indonesia. The teachings of the Catholic Church are readily accepted by local people, partly because the beliefs of the local people of Manggarai are compatible with the instructions brought by the Catholic Church. This is especially evident, for instance, in the understanding, belief and appreciation of the local community regarding eschatology. Employing an ethnographic-theological study, this article reflects a contextual approach to theology. The method used is an ethnographic-theological study. The data was obtained by direct observation, interviewing traditional Manggarai leaders who are Catholics, and studying some documents related to this article's subject. This study addresses the following question: how does the vision of the Manggaraian people's future help the inculturation of Catholic eschatology? According to the research question, this article explores the basis of hope for the end of the Manggaraian people and simultaneously compares it with the existing Christian eschatology. This study shows a harmony between the eschatological meaning of the Manggaraian local beliefs and that of the Catholic Church. This harmony facilitates the inculturation of Catholic eschatological beliefs into the local culture of the Manggaraian community. This page is in English Translate to Indonesian    AfrikaansAlbanianAmharicArabicArmenianAzerbaijaniBengaliBulgarianCatalanCroatianCzechDanishDutchEnglishEstonianFinnishFrenchGermanGreekGujaratiHaitian CreoleHebrewHindiHungarianIcelandicIndonesianItalianJapaneseKannadaKazakhKhmerKoreanKurdish (Kurmanji)LaoLatvianLithuanianMalagasyMalayMalayalamMalteseMaoriMarathiMyanmar (Burmese)NepaliNorwegianPashtoPersianPolishPortuguesePunjabiRomanianRussianSamoanSimplified ChineseSlovakSlovenianSpanishSwedishTamilTeluguThaiTraditional ChineseTurkishUkrainianUrduVietnameseWelsh Always translate English to IndonesianPRO Never translate English Never translate aafki-afti.org
