AbstractThis research is to explore mathematical concept and find out the position of the mathematical concept in the tradition of rice cultivation in the community of Sambas Regency in the mathemathics learning. Data is collected by observation, interviews, and documentation. The subjects of this research are four farmers and eight teachers from the elementary to high school levels. The results showed the fact that ethnomatematics used by communities for the cultivation. The mathematical concept was verified through formal mathematics learning by the teacher. The conclusion of this research is obtained the ethnomatematics activities used by farmer which are measuring, calculating, determining location, and designing and approving buildings. mathematical concepts contained in the rice cultivation tradition in Sambas Regency are the arrangement, the operations of whole number, inverse dan direct proportion, plane figure, solid figure, area and circumference of plane, measure of speed and time, least common mutiples, sets, sequences and series arithmetic, linear programs, systems of variable two linear equations, permutations and combinations, and symmetry. These mathematical concepts are applied in formal mathematics learning activities. The teacher relates mathematical concepts to the tradition of rice cultivation as an apperception, an example when explaining material, and questions as evaluation. Keywords: Exploration, Mathematics Concept, Paddy Cultivation
