Abstract

The study of Q. 24: 31 is not new in the world of Quranic exegesis, as various methods and approaches in the field have been used to explore the main message of Q. 24: 31. Explicitly, Q. 24: 31 commands the preservation of dignity by covering one’s body (aurat). However, the core message has undergone distortion due to current phenomena. In both the real and virtual worlds, many claim to exhibit Islamic character, yet their behavior contradicts the ethical and religious norms. This can be seen in trends such as jilboobs, turbans, Yakult bottles, and others. Building upon these phenomena, this study aims to reassess the interpretation of Q. 24: 31 and its contextual relevance. This qualitative research relies on a literature review as its primary method of analysis. The data is analyzed descriptively using Abdullah Saeed's contextual approach. The study concludes that historically, women of the past did not wear the khimar properly, merely draping it over their heads, leaving parts of their bodies exposed. In response, Q. 24: 31 provides specific guidance on the norms and ethics that Muslim women should follow, including wearing a khimar that fully covers the head and chest. Q. 24: 31 is universal, as evidenced by its repetition in other verses, indicating that its values are constant and comprehensive. The contextualization of Q. 24: 31 for today serves as a guide not only for covering the body but also for adhering to the norms and ethics of Islam. Covering the body should be accompanied by maintaining a woman’s dignity and honor, which is an integral part of observing modesty.

Abstract

This paper discusses the biography and thoughts of Thanthawi Jawhari Al-Misri and his tafseer Tafsir Al-Jawahir fi Tafsir Al-Qur'an Al-Karim as one of the interpretations with a scientific pattern. this paper uses a qualitative approach by applying the content analysis method.  While the method used by the author is thematic. This type of research is a library study or (library research) which seeks to gather power from various literatures related to the theme of discussion. The data sources used in this study come from library data. This paper tries to conduct a historical study, especially in the field of Qur'anic Sciences and Tafsir by describing Tafsir Al-Jawahir fi Tafsir Al-Qur'an Al-Karim by Sheikh Thanthawi Jauhari Al-Misri which aims to describe the background and thoughts on his interpretation. This discussant concludes Sheikh Thanthawi Jauhari Al-Misri as a Muslim scholar who earned the nickname “Mufassir ilmu” because of the breadth of knowledge he possessed. Sheikh Thanthawi Jauhari Al-Misri has five main sources in his interpretation, namely other Qur'anic verses, Hadith, Qaul of Companions or Tabi'in, science, and previous books. This is evident in one example of the interpretation of QS Ar-Rum/30: 41 which explains about humans and animals as the cause of disasters on land and in the sea.

Abstract

This research is about the Shia Sect. The development of Shia is divided into three, including: Itsna 'Asyariyah, Isma'iliyah and Zaidiyah. Shia Isma'iliyah is the second largest sect. The development of Shia is very rapid but requires a long and complex time. The interpretation that is very popular among the Shia is the Tafsir Asas al-Ta'wil. The purpose of this research is to popularize the rarely known Shia interpretation. This research provides an overview of the Ismaili Shia figures, the meaning of ta'wil and the difference with the term tafsir. Then, covered with examples of interpretation of the story of Prophet Isa As. This type of research is classified as qualitative by relying on written data. The result of this research and discussion is that the book Tafsir Asas al-Ta'wil by al-Nu'man ibn Hayyun is the basic basis of mysticism philosophy as an understanding of a nature contained in the Al-Qur'an. It is divided into six sections which interpret the stories of the prophets in the Al-Qur'an, including: Prophet Adam, Prophet Noah, Prophet Abraham, Prophet Musa, Prophet Isa, and Prophet Muhammad SAW. The concept of ta'wil according to Syi'ah Isma'iliyah is an attempt to find the inner meaning or sign, essence, and truth (meaning) that is hidden behind the lafadz. There are many shortcomings in this research. Therefore, Drivers of Islamic Studies are expected to continue to deepen research related to the Ismaili Shia Theme.

Abstract

This study analyzes the practice of social egg freezing for unmarried women from the perspective of Islamic law and its relevance to maqāṣid al-sharī'ah and gender justice. The phenomenon of modernity has led Muslim women to delay marriage and pregnancy for education and careers, creating tension between professional demands and biological reproductive limitations. This qualitative research employs a library-based method with a normative-theological approach, integrating tafsir, maqāṣid al-sharī'ah, qiyās, and sadd al-dharī'ah. Data were obtained from primary sources including Qur'anic verses, classical and contemporary tafsir works, and authoritative fatwas, supported by modern scientific literature. The findings indicate that social egg freezing can be understood as a form of human agency (ikhtiyar) to preserve reproductive potential while responding to the social realities of modern women. Legally, this practice falls within the framework of the "Conditional Permissibility Doctrine" (al-ibāḥah al-muqayyadah), namely conditional permissibility prioritizing lineage protection (ḥifẓ al-nasl). This permissibility requires use only within a valid marriage, prohibition of donation and surrogacy, medical safety guarantees, and control of lineage mixing risks. From a maqāṣid perspective, this practice relates to the protection of lineage, intellect (ḥifẓ al-'aql), property (ḥifẓ al-māl), and human dignity. Thus, social egg freezing can be positioned as a preventive and adaptive instrument of maṣlaḥah. This study affirms that Islamic law possesses methodological flexibility to respond to biotechnological developments justly and contextually, while strengthening women's position as autonomous legal subjects without disregarding Sharia principles.
