Abstract

CAPD is a dialysis method using a peritoneal membrane which is used as kidney replacement therapy. Although it is easy to implement, if it is not done correctly it can cause various complications such as peritonitis. Since the start of CAPD therapy, hand washing has been the main procedure before changing fluids. CAPD data according to IRR (2018) was confirmed from the provision of consumable medical materials or peritoneal dialysis fluid to 2,105 patients. This study aims to determine the relationship between hand washing compliance and the incidence of peritonitis in the Imam Bonjol CAPD Room, Dr. Saiful Anwar Hospital, East Java Province. This research method uses an observational analytical descriptive research design with a cross sectional method. The research sample was 177 CAPD patients using random sampling technique. The research results showed that almost all respondents had hand washing compliance in the compliant category with 147 respondents (83.1%). The research results showed that almost all respondents were in the no peritonitis category that were 153 respondents (86.4%). The results of the analysis using Fisher’s Exact Test showed that the Pvalue < α with Pvalue = 0.000 and α = 0.05, this shows that there is a relationship between hand washing compliance and the incidence of peritonitis in the Imam Bonjol CAPD Room, Dr. Saiful Anwar Hospital, East Java Province. The results show that hand washing is very important in preventing peritonitis in patients undergoing CAPD therapy. Suggestions for respondents to follow the guidelines and recommendations given by medical personnel to maintain hand hygiene, especially for CAPD patients. When possible, looking for additional information or training on hand washing practices.

Abstract

Abstract

Patients undergoing hemodialysis therapy experience a decrease in quality of life. This is due to changes in their lives such as limited mobility, a reduced role in society, and decreased productivity. These changes affect the patient's psychological condition, which has an impact on the patient's perception of his life, including quality of life. The aim is to determine the relationship between the duration of hemodialysis and the quality of life in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) patients in the Cut Nyak Dien Room at Dr. Saiful Anwar Hospital, Malang. This research design is a non-experimental correlational research design using a cross-sectional approach, involving 74 respondents from chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis. This research uses primary data using the KDQOL SF-36. The results of the chi square test showed that there was a relationship between the length of time undergoing hemodialysis and the quality of life of Chronic Kidney Disease patients in the Cut Nyak Dien Room at Dr. Saiful Anwar Hospital, Malang (p value <0.05). It is hoped that the hospital can maintain and improve the quality of service to chronic kidney failure patients by providing appropriate health education so that they understand the changes that will occur in their health.

Abstract

Introduction: Transgender women (locally known as waria) represent a key population that is highly vulnerable to HIV/AIDS. Elevated rates of risky sexual behavior, limited access to healthcare services, and pervasive social stigma and discrimination intensify this vulnerability. Although intervention programs, such as Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT), are available, the awareness and personal experiences of transgender individuals concerning these services remain underexplored. This study aimed to delve into the lived experiences of transgender women in Malang, East Java. Method: This research employed a qualitative design informed by a phenomenological approach. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews with 12 purposively selected transgender participants, alongside field observations. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis to uncover patterns and meanings within the participants' subjective experiences. Results: The study revealed four key themes: a limited understanding of HIV and its associated risks, low engagement with HIV testing services, psychological distress following a positive diagnosis, and risky sexual behaviors driven by financial necessity. Participants expressed inadequate knowledge about HIV transmission, inconsistent condom usage, irregular testing habits, emotional distress, internalized stigma, and ongoing high-risk behaviors influenced by economic pressures. Conclusions: Transgender women face a range of intricate challenges. Despite possessing some awareness of HIV, factors such as limited testing participation, psychological distress, and economic vulnerability contribute to the persistence of risky sexual practices. It is crucial to implement integrated interventions that focus on health education, mental health support, improved access to services, and economic empowerment to reduce the ongoing risk of HIV transmission effectively.
