Abstract

This paper describes theoretical and experimental study of the static bearing stiffness. This research is motivated by the role of bearing stiffness in determining the natural frequency of a rotor-shaft system. Previous investigators, White and Harris, have developed an analytical tool to calculate the bearing stiffness. However, this analytical results were not supported by experimental data. In this work, an experimental study was done in order to determine the static bearing stiffness. These experimental results are then compared to those obtained by White and Harris analysis. The analysis and experimental study will pave the way toward the determination of the dynamic bearing stiffness.

Abstract

This paper presents research on the development of semi automation technique for balancing machines. Using this technique, rotational speed of rotors, data acquisition process, and amplitude and phase of vibration calculations could be performed by a computer. Consequently, faster and more accurate balancing process can be achieved. The effectiveness of the proposed control method was verified using experimental results. In this test, the rotor speed was measured by and compared to the results obtained from software, a digital oscilloscope, a digital tachometer and a Multi Channel Spectrum Analyzer M/ISA). Furthermore, to verify the accuracy of amplitude and phase calculations, the values obtained from the developed software were compared to those from analytical results obtained from MSA.

Abstract

This paper deals with the development of direct balancing method that uses no trial mass. This activity is the continuation work of the previous research on semi automation of balancing machine that has been performed at the Dynamics Laboratory IUC-ES ITB. This method has been developed by using Frequency Response Function (FRF) data of a balancing machine as a function of frequency and rotors masses that will be balanced. These FRF data are used as aconversion factor of voltage, which is the output of velocity transducer, to unbalance flzrce. Using this method, the balancing process can be perfiarmed faster and more accurately than that of conventional balancing methods.
