Abstract

This research was motivated by the convergence phenomenon carried out by comedian Megi Irawan when he was a guest star on the PWK podcast hosted by Praz Teguh. Language convergence is an individual's strategy for adapting to the communicative behavior of the interlocutor. This research focused on the Indonesian-Minangkabau language variations used by Megi Irawan when converging on Praz Teguh. The data was obtained from two episodes of the PWK podcast featuring Megi Irawan as a guest star. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach to identify language features, convergence strategies, and social correlations. The findings showed that Megi Irawan converged using variations of the Indonesian-Minangkabau language. In the intrasystemic (internal) aspect of language, three types of Indonesian-Minangkabau language variations were found, namely phonological variations, morphological variations, and semantic variations. The convergence strategies used by Megi Irawan are code-switching, code-mixing, and interference. The findings offer significant insights into broader sociolinguistic themes. First, the research emphasizes how language variations, particularly between Indonesian and Minangkabau, reflect the identities of speakers. This aligns with sociolinguistic studies that explore how language serves as a marker of social identity and cultural belonging. Second, the findings reveal that language serves not only as a means of communication but also as a tool for building social solidarity and navigating social relationships. Third, the research contributes to ethnographic approaches in sociolinguistics by examining how language variations are tied to cultural practices and social interactions.

Abstract This study is based on the linguistic expressions used by (NH) addressed to (NA) which allegedly contain insult-type hate speech on Instagram. These linguistic expressions were brought into the legal domain and reported to the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigations, Sub-Directorate V of Cybercrime, Regional Police of South Sulawesi and categorized as a complaint-based offense. This study employs forensic linguistic investigation with the support of cognitive linguistics, aiming to analyze the framing, perspectives, and mental spaces within the linguistic expressions of the reported party (NH) and to determine whether these expressions constitute hate speech in the form of insults. This is a descriptive qualitative study using secondary data obtained from Evidence (E) and Investigation and Interrogation Reports from investigators at the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigations (Ditreskrimsus) of the Regional Police of South Sulawesi, Makassar City. This study reveals six types of frames used by NH to insult NA, including the frame of Islam, sin, prostitute, insult, threat, and insinuation. Based on perspective analysis, three viewpoints were identified: the perspective of the reported party (NH), the complainant (NA), and the investigators (police). The reported party (NH) engaged in hate speech in the form of insults by utilizing perspectives based on identity (religious and personal identity), accusations, and comparisons. Mental space analysis was conducted on four linguistic expressions, yielding two concepts from the blending of mental spaces: the concept of a prostitute and the concept of contradiction. Based on these analyses along with the utterances of seven pieces of evidence with (14) linguistic expressions, it is concluded that the linguistic expressions used by (NH) against (NA) have been proven to violate the Electronic Information and Transaction (ITE) Law Article 27 Paragraph (3) of 2016 and the Indonesian Criminal Code on defamation, Articles 310 and 311. Abstract

This study aimed to identify the forms of metaphor in Mahfudzat's work on knowledge and to prove that the work reflects the life of Arab society. Lakoff and Johnson's (2003) theory were used as the base for data analysis. The theory states that there are source and target domains in metaphor which are described in this study by using Kovesces' mapping table. As this is a descriptive-qualitative research, the data of this study are in the forms of textual materials of Mahfudzat from Modern Islamic Boarding school Darussalam Gontor. The data source is limited to Mahfudzat materials containing the word ‘knowledge’ in the curricula for Grade 1 and 2. For collecting the data, documentation techniques were applied by reading and understanding the text as well as identifying, classifying, and categorizing the data. Meanwhile, the process of data analysis went through several stages i.e.: reading, composing metaphors, describing conceptual metaphor mapping, categorizing the types of metaphors, and drawing conclusions. The results show that there are 13 data related to science in Mahfudzat. In addition, 8 data containing metaphors were found, comprising 2 structural metaphors, 1 orientational metaphor, and 5 ontological metaphors.
