Abstract

Industrial economics is a part of economics that studies how the structure, behavior and results of industry. This article aims to understand the definition and problems in industrial economics by using a qualitative approach with literature studies. This study emphasizes the main problems of perfect competition, technological innovation, production efficiency, and government regulations that have an impact on industrial performance. By conducting a literature review, this study provides a conceptual overview that can be the basis for further research.

Abstract

This research aims to identify leading sectors through the Location Quoetient (LQ) approach and Shift Share analysis. The LQ approach is used to determine the base sector based on structural advantages, while shift share measures the competitive advantage of the economic sector at the local level compared to the provincial level. The data used is the GRDP of Malang City and East Java Province for 2020-2022 at constant prices. The results of the analysis show that of the 17 sectors analyzed, only two sectors meet the criteria as leading sectors, namely the financial and insurance services sector and the education services sector. These two sectors not only have LQ values >1, but also show DK values >0, signaling superiority in economic structure and growth. This finding emphasizes the importance of strengthening the strategic services sector as a driver of sustainable economic development in Malang City.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the economic structure and the level of industrialization in Banyuwangi Regency in 2023 using the Location Quotient (LQ) approach. The data used were obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), specifically the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at current prices by industrial sector for both Banyuwangi Regency and East Java Province in 2023. The analysis shows that the manufacturing sector has an LQ value of 0.41, indicating that it is not a base sector in the region. In contrast, the base sectors include agriculture, forestry, and fisheries (LQ = 2.34), mining and quarrying (LQ = 1.85), construction (LQ = 1.55), and education services (LQ = 1.18). These findings indicate that Banyuwangi's economy still relies heavily on primary sectors and has not yet undergone a significant structural transformation toward a more industrial-based economy. Therefore, strategic efforts are needed to develop local industries based on regional resources and to enhance value-added production in order to promote more sustainable and inclusive industrialization.
