Abstract

Language is the most important means of communication in life, whether in the form of writing, orally, or only in the form of certain signs. Without language, humans cannot socialize with other people and slang is a phenomenon of the use of linguistic variations that are formed as a result of language development and social dynamics in society. Slang is a new vocabulary owned by a certain group of people that is related to informal conversations and used in informal situations. This research aims to find out the types and meanings of slang contained in Raditya Dika's podcast. The data source for this research was taken from Raditya Dika's podcast which was uploaded to his Spotify account with the title "Guide to Facing Haters ft Uus". This research uses a qualitative descriptive method and data is collected by transcribing conversations from Raditya Dika and Uus. 23 pieces of data were found in Raditya Dika's podcast related to slang language. The research results show that the Podcast "Guide to Facing Haters ft Uus" by Raditya Dika contains 5 types of slang according to the theory of Allan and Burridge (2006), namely Fresh and Creative, Flippant, Imitative, Acronym, and Clipping. From the research results, it was found that the Fresh and Creative types were most widely used with 10 data, 8 data for Acronyms, 3 data for Imitative, 1 data for Flippant, and 1 data for Clipping.

Abstract

This research aims to describe two main problems, namely: (1) What types of figurative language are found in the novel Cita Cinta Caraka? And (2) What meanings are in the Cita Cinta Caraka Novel? The data in this research is in the form of speech in the novel Cita Cinta Caraka by Erisca Febriani, which contains a figurative language style. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. This novel is analyzed using Keraf's theory. This novel contains 107 data. After examining the figurative language data in the novel Cita Cinta Caraka, it is known that there are 28 personifications, 10 hyperboles, 14 similes, 15 metaphors, 21 ironies, 6 litotes, 9 metonymies, 1 eponym, 2 antonyms, and 1 euphemism. Based on the analysis findings, personification-figurative language is the most dominant in the novel. The author uses personification to explain the meaning or message of each character and the author's intentions, as well as expressing the characters' emotions, making the story more exciting and entertaining, and being able to make readers more quickly understand the meaning of the words of each character in the novel. It can be concluded that figurative language has an important role in this novel. Therefore, the author uses many figurative sentences in this novel. The use of figurative language makes the novel more interesting to read and helps readers imagine the story and the characters based on the illustrations that the author has given in the story.

Abstract

This research is expected to improve people’s ability to use sarcasm in direct conversation or written, in addition to their ability to absorb new knowledge. The aims of this study are to find out the types of sarcasm used in Wednesday Netflix Series and to explain the function of sarcasm in Wednesday Netflix Series. this research is descriptive qualitative. Therefore, a research hypothesis is not used. This research examines the structure and significance of sarcastic language used by the characters of Wednesday in the Wednesday Netflix Series. In the research that the writer has done, of the four types in accordance with Camp’s theory, the types of sarcasm used by Wednesday are illocutionary, lexical, and propositional types. In the sarcasm function section, which amounted to 10 functions according to Keraf''s theory, the writer found the functions of affirmation, Affirmation, Prohibitions, Rejection, Submission of question, orders, opinions, comparison, information. it is possible to infer that the Wednesday Netflix series employs a significant degree of sarcasm in the conversation delivered by the Wednesday characters and as a sign to show who Wednesday is through her sarcastic way of speaking. The writer discovered various sarcastic phrases and context is a key tool for spotting sarcastic statements.
