Abstract

Public speaking is the skill of delivering oral messages in front of a crowd. This ability needs to be applied to children from an early age. One form of application can be through Qur'an recitation art training. By using descriptive qualitative method, this research aims to explain the practice of Al-Qur'an recitation art training held at the Great Mosque of Kudus, then analyzed the elements of public speaking contained therein. This study also aims to determine the benefits obtained by the participants, especially in familiarizing children with public speaking through Qur'an recitation training. The results showed that, 1) Qur'an recitation training at the Great Mosque of Kudus applies elements of public speaking in the learning process. It can be seen when the ustaz appoints one of the participants to recite the verses of the Qur'an with a loud voice or using a microphone in front of many people, which shows the practice of public speaking, 2) Qur'an recitation training has similarities with vocal techniques in public speaking, such as breathing techniques, articulation, and speaking speed or tempo, 3) This training also has a positive impact on children's public speaking skills, including improving vocal abilities, fostering courage and self-confidence, and developing social skills in interacting with others.

Abstract

This article explores the relationship between media consumption and cultural identity among the youth of Juwana, Pati Regency, with a focus on the influence of media on adolescents' understanding of and attachment to local culture. This research is motivated by the increasing trend of social media use that has the potential to change the way adolescents understand local cultural values. Uncontrolled media consumption can diminish local values, while proper utilization can strengthen cultural identity. The novelty of the research lies in the qualitative approach that combines in-depth interviews and participatory observation to explore adolescents' experiences in using media. Data was obtained through structured interviews with teenagers and observations of their interaction patterns with the media. The results show that although social media encourages awareness of local cultural traditions and values, the dominant use of slang creates a generation gap that can weaken cultural attachment. This research underscores the importance of synergy between families, schools and communities in building wise media literacy. With good media literacy, media consumption can be utilized as a means to strengthen adolescents' cultural identity without ignoring local values. Therefore, the role of education in directing media utilization is crucial for the preservation of local culture in the digital era. Abstract

The film Bida'ah is a Malaysian series that critically depicts female characters' resistance to injustice in the context of religion and patriarchal culture. A study of the film Bida'ah was conducted to provide an understanding of how visual media such as films can position women as subjects who have a voice, choices, and the courage to fight injustice. The problem statement in this study is how female characters in the film reflect resistance to patriarchal culture and religious understanding. This study aims to uncover the representation of female characters in the film Bida'ah as a form of criticism of patriarchal culture and religious understanding that limits women's roles. This study uses a qualitative approach with Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis method with three stages of analysis, namely denotation, connotation, and myth. The findings from this analysis are expected to make a significant contribution to the fields of patriarchy, cinema, and media studies in general. Patriarchal culture exploits this heresy as a tool to maintain power and social control over women, often disguised under the pretext of religious preaching and obedience. Thus, this study is not only a reflection on the courage of female characters in films, but also a call to strengthen the position of women in the public sphere and reinforce narratives of anti-patriarchal social change and gender equality.
