Abstract

Birefringence characterization has been carried out for single-mode fiber (SMF) consisting of SMF-28, SMF-28e, SMF-28e+, SMF-28e+LL, and SMF-28ULL. The parameters that were varied were the refractive index of the core and the cladding, while the radii of both were equal to the wavelength of 1550 nm. Birefringence characterized by simulation can determine the quality of SMF by knowing the changes in the light propagation constant caused by polarized light on optical fibers. The simulation results show that in SMF-28ULL there is a propagation constant or birefringence which has a large influence compared to other types of SMF such as the magnitude of polarization and reducing power.

Abstract

The acceleration of the growth in the rate of oil palm seed roots is a non-chemical solution in nursery needs. Utilizing the electricity sector as an increase in germination productivity. In this case, this study examines variations in the electric field direct current 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1000 V/m and the exposure of time 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes. The results showed exposure to an electric field direct current in voltage of 100 V/m increased germination at each exposure time by 17%, 21%, 20% and 26% with exposure times of 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes to control. However, a maximum intensity of 1000 V/m inhibits the germination process for each time of 30, 45, and 60 minutes by 8%, 9%, and 12% in the control. Exposure to direct current in electric field intensity and exposure of time affect root metabolism in the germination process.

Abstract

The density value and plasma reaction rate are the physical quantities needed to produce plasma. Both are used to estimate the heat energy and operating time of the plasma. Argon plasma at atmospheric pressure is widely used in industry. Density values and plasma reaction rates were obtained by computational modeling using the continuity equation and the Arrhenius equation obtained from experimental data. Five argon species were used in this research including Ar*, Ar+, Ar2+, Ar, and electron. Plasma equilibrium occurs in time intervals of 10-12 – 10-3 seconds with a temperature of 2 eV. The overall thermal argon plasma equilibrium density ranges within the interval 109 – 1016 m-3. The value of the fastest reaction rate obtained is equal to 2.482 × 104 m-3.s-1 until the smallest reaction rate is obtained equal to 14.613 × 10-34 m-3.s-1.
