ABSTRAK: Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dan kualitatif, data dikumpulkan dengan metode kuesioner, tes menulis, observasi, wawancara, dan metode kepustakaan untuk mengetahui kesulitan dan faktor penyebab kesulitan menulis aksara Mandarin pada siswa-siswi kelas VII tingkat dasar SMP Harapan Utama Kota Batam. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan, siswa-siswi mengalami kesulitan mengingat bentuk dan goresan aksara Mandarin, kesulitan menentukan goresan yang tepat, kesulitan mengingat dan menentukan urutan goresan, kesulitan menentukan penggabungan dan pemisahan penulisan bentuk aksara yang tepat, kesulitan memahami struktur penulisan bentuk aksara yang tepat dan aturan penulisan bentuk aksara yang benar serta kesulitan menerapkan teknik yang tepat dalam menulis aksara Mandarin. Kesulitan ini disebabkan oleh 13 faktor internal dan 9 faktor eksternal. Penelitian ini juga memberikan saran atas kendala yang dihadapi oleh siswa-siswi, dan diharapkan penelitian ini dapat membantu menyelesaikan kesulitan menulis aksara Mandarin yang dihadapi oleh siswa-siswi.Kata kunci: Menulis aksara Mandarin, SMP Harapan Utama, kesulitan menulis, faktor penyebab kesulitanABSTRACT: This research uses a combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches. The data are sourced from questionnaires, writing tests, observations, interviews, and literature research methods to understand the difficulties and factors related to Chinese characters writing among seventh-grade basic class students at Harapan Utama Junior High School in Batam City. The results of the research show that the students have difficulty remembering the shapes and strokes of Chinese characters, difficulty determining the correct Chinese characters strokes, difficulty remembering and determining the order of the strokes, difficulty determining the correct merging and separation of writing the shapes of the Chinese characters, difficulty understanding the correct structure of writing the Chinese characters shapes and the rules of correct writing the Chinese characters shapes, as well as difficulty applying the correct techniques in writing Chinese characters. The reasons for the difficulties consist of 13 internal factors and 9 external factors.
