Abstract

A work accident is an accident that occurs that is related to an employment relationship. The employment relationship here can mean that the accident occurred due to work or while carrying out work. Work accidents in general can be caused by two main things, namely unsafe work behavior (Unsafe Act) and unsafe working conditions (Unsafe Condition). Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a tool that has the ability to protect a person in a job whose function isolates the worker's body from hazards in the workplace. This study analyzes the relationship between the use of PPE, knowledge and the incidence of work accidents in employees at PT. PAJ Banyuasin City, South Sumatra in 2022. This study uses an Observational Analytical research design with a Cross Sectional approach. An overview of the results of the research in general is the number of respondents as many as 68 respondents who work as employees at PT. PAJ. For the age of respondents who have a minimum age of 20 years, the maximum age is 55 years and the average age of respondents is 25 years. There is a relationship between knowledge and the incidence of work accidents in employees at PT. PAJ Banyuasin City, South Sumatra. It is hoped that all employees will always be committed to the correct implementation of SOPs at work, especially in the use of PPE so that work accidents do not occur

Abstract

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is equipment that functions to protect workers from potential accident risks while carrying out their duties. The use of PPE is an important step in efforts to reduce the number of accidents in the workplace. This study aims to eval_uate worker behavior in using PPE at PT PAJ. The study was conducted with an observational analytical approach, involving all employees as a population, while the sample consisted of 50 workers. Based on the results of the study, the majority of workers (88%) have a good level of knowledge, more than half (54%) have a supportive attitude, but most (80%) still do not use PPE completely. Therefore, it is recommended to increase workers' understanding and awareness of the importance of using PPE to prevent work accidents.

Abstract

Lutein and zeaxanthin are carotenoids that serve as key components in the Age-Related Eye Disease Study 2 (AREDS 2) formulation, replacing beta-carotene from the original formulation due to safety concerns. These carotenoids exhibit dual protective mechanisms as blue light filters and antioxidants within the macula. This literature review aims to analyze the specific roles of lutein and zeaxanthin in AREDS 2, their molecular protective mechanisms, and their optimal clinical implementation in age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Literature searches were conducted through PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar using the keywords "lutein", "zeaxanthin", "AREDS 2","macular pigment", and "photoprotection". Lutein and zeaxanthin selectively accumulate in the macula, forming macular pigment optical density (MPOD), which functions as blue light filter (400–500 nm) and free radical scavenger. Supplementation with lutein 10 mg and zeaxanthin 2 mg in AREDS 2 has been proven to increase MPOD and reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) progression by 10%–26%. Clinical implementation requires baseline MPOD evaluation, individualized response monitoring, and dose optimization based on nutritional status and patient-specific risk factors.
