Abstract

Abstract   Alcoholism has serious harmful effects on all organs of the human body. The incidence of alcoholism in Papua is relatively high, especially among teenagers. The training entitled "Sore Mas Papua" or "Save the Brains of the Golden Generation of Papua" anti-alcoholism is a comprehensive program designed to achieve promotive and preventive goals against alcoholism problems. This program is focused on high school students, it is expected to make students able to avoid alcoholism problems, and even become the best agents of change to promote the detrimental effects of alcohol consumption on the brain and human health in general for teenagers of the same age around their environment. The training was conducted on students of SMA Negeri 3 Jayapura, attended by 99 students (grades 10-12) in a closed room directly. The training material was presented using PowerPoint media, promotional video sessions, and structured evaluations for all participants. The material presented includes the spectrum of alcoholism problems in Indonesia, brain development and fetal alcoholic syndrome, genetic aspects of alcoholism, normal alcohol metabolism in the body, the effects of alcohol on the brain, and maintaining brain health. Pre-tests and post-tests related to the content of the material provided. A total of 15 questions related to the content of the training material in the form of binary scale answers (true or false) were given to all participants. In the post-test, the knowledge and understanding of the participants increased. This form of training needs to be carried out more widely among high school students in Jayapura City and the training materials can be published in a book to be used as a guide in a wider anti-alcoholism promotion and prevention program.

Abstract

Abstract All learning activities require brain performance, which in addition to acting as a central organ in the learning process. Thus, knowing how the brain works in a series of learning processes will be one of the keys to student learning success. The training "Papua Brain School (SOP): Learning Using the Brain" for SMP Negeri 9 Jayapura Students aims to provide a horizon of knowledge to SMP students about how knowledge-based learning strategies and the ability to optimize brain resources are so important. The training has been conducted and attended by 38 SMP students for full day. The material topics consist of 7 sub-topics described interactively, interspersed with demonstrations and brain games. The results of the identification at the beginning of the training were that 45% of students' main learning challenges were addicted to playing social media, 47% of students' focus time in independent learning was only less than 10 minutes, and 29% of the causes of learning difficulties were due to teacher factors. As many as 15 questions were asked in the pre-and post-test related to the training content, and a significant increase in knowledge was experienced after the training was given. This training can be an alternative to developing the learning "software" capacity of SMP students. Students can learn about learning strategies by using the brain as a provision to form good learning habits.

Abstract

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) represent a prevalent health issue among clinical medical students, with global studies reporting incidence rates of 73% in India and 81.9% in Saudi Arabia. Pain is most frequently reported in the neck, lower back, and shoulder areas. However, similar data from Indonesia, particularly Papua, remains limited. This study aims to identify the prevalence and risk factors of MSDs among clinical medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Cenderawasih University. The research employed a cross-sectional design with a sample of 78 clinical students selected through purposive sampling. Data collection utilized the Standardized Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ) to measure prevalence and the Nordic Body Map to localize pain. Data analysis used Chi-Square test to evaluate the relationship between risk factors (such as Body Mass Index/BMI and physical activity) and musculoskeletal complaints. Results showed the majority of respondents were female (74.4%) and aged ≥25 years (51.3%). Most respondents experienced pain at the "moderate pain" level (57.7%), with the most frequently reported pain areas being the back, waist, calves, knees, shoulders, and wrists. There was a statistically significant relationship between BMI and pain complaints (p=0.035), but no significant relationship was found between physical exercise and musculoskeletal complaints (p=0.129). This study concludes that BMI is a risk factor for MSDs in the studied population. Evidence-based recommendations are needed to reduce MSD risk and improve students' quality of life during clinical education.
