Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of hot dip galvanizing on steel with different carbon content on mechanical properties of steel. The research method used in this research is an experimental method,The method used was that the metal was coated with hot dip galvanizing media using zinc. From the hardness test results, SAE 1085 produced the highest average of hardness 95.1 HRB. The results of the thickness test showed that the highest AISI 1020 was 131.8 μm. The results of the corrosion rate test showed that the highest corrosion rate is AISI 1020 was 0.36385 mmpy. The microstructure test results showed SAE 1085 has a smaller grain size. Zn layer which is not too thick due to lack of diffusion and movement of Zn atoms due to high carbon content which has a close layer distance and small grains. So that the corrosion rate that occurs is lower than steel which has a low carbon content.

Abstract

The company where author currently work is at PT Angkasa Pura Solusi a subsidiary of PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, the author in Water Treatment unit as a senior technician. This unit is responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing clean water distribution equipment to terminals and buildings at Soekarno-Hatta Airport as well as overcoming disturbances, repairing, replacing, and maintain the equipment at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in accordance with applicable regulations. One of the responsibilities is the maintenance of Drinking Water Machine equipment, for current conditions maintenance of Drinking Water Machine equipment is only carried out if there are complaints of problems by telephone. For scheduled or planned maintenance has been carried out but is still not effective. The result is that the tool experiences a short lifetime on the supporting components of the Drinking Water Machine tool which makes the tool unable to operate properly and leads to budget overruns because they have to continue to replace damaged spare parts components so that the tool can operate optimally at performance figures above 90%, in addition to the impact caused by equipment operational downtime due to lack of preparation when the Drinking Water Machine tool must be repaired. For this reason, the author makes a maintenance analysis of the Drinking Water Machine with the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) method, from this method it will be known what components of the Drinking Water Machine are often damaged or malfunctioned.

Abstract

AISI1045 steel is widely used as an automotive component for example for gear components in motorized vehicles. In its application steel type AISI 1045 must have resistance and hardness to wear. This study aims to determine the effect of cooling media on hardness and depth of hardness and microstructure of Steel AISI 1045. The material is heat treated hardening Flame using oxy-acetylen gas with a holding time of 1 minute 30 seconds and quenching with a variety of cooling media (Water, Oil 10W40, and Oil 20W / 50) and holding time 1 hour. From the water cooling media produced the highest average hardness of 62.78 HRA, and the smallest was 52.34 HRA on oil cooling media 20W / 50. The results of the microstructure showed differences in grain size and number of porosity where the water cooling medium has a smaller grain size compared to 10W40 Oil cooling media, and 20W / 50 Oil and more porosity is found in water cooling media. From the results of the SEM test with 1000x magnification obtained the value of the depth of hardness using a mathematical approach with water cooling medium has the highest depth of 0.037 mm. This is because the water viscosity is lower compared to 10W / 40 Oil cooling media and 20W / 50 Oil so that the water cooling media produces a higher hardness value to Steel AISI 1045.
