Abstract

The research was examined an analysis of politeness strategies used by the main character of “Wonder” movie. A qualitative descriptive method was employed to analyze the politeness and expressive illocutionary acts depicted in the movie. The data were collected by following Brown and Levinson's strategies, by watching the movie and analyzing its transcript and utterances, focusing on the politeness strategies was the three main characters in that movie. By finding the main character's utterances, the data found 46 positive politeness, 19 negative politeness, 17 bald on record, and 6 off records. The most apparent from the utterance was a positive politeness strategy of asking for a reason. In conclusion, the result is expected to facilitate the English teacher to take the movie as one of the alternative ways to educate skill of good communication. Educators can adopt the politeness strategies as depicted in the “Wonder” movie as same as the other movie in the teaching and learning process in the real classroom.

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Kesehatan mental remaja menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan berdasarkan gender, dimana remaja perempuan lebih rentan terhadap gangguan internalisasi seperti depresi dan kecemasan. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui hubungan antara penggunaan media sosial dan kesehatan mental remaja, serta perbedaannya berdasarkan jenis kelamin.Metode: Studi cross-sectional dilakukan pada 139 siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Godean menggunakan kuesioner skrining gangguan emosional. Data dianalisis dengan uji chi-square.Hasil: Hasil menunjukkan prevalensi gejala gangguan mental yang tinggi, termasuk pikiran untuk mengakhiri hidup (97,1%), namun tidak terdapat hubungan signifikan antara jenis kelamin dan status kesehatan mental (p = 0,968). Meskipun demikian, secara praktis terlihat bahwa remaja perempuan lebih banyak mengalami gangguan emosional dibandingkan laki-laki.Kesimpulan: Pentingnya intervensi kesehatan mental berbasis sekolah yang mempertimbangkan faktor gender dan pengaruh ekosistem digital. Disarankan adanya peningkatan literasi digital, pelatihan guru, serta dukungan keluarga.

Abstract

The background to this research is based on the increasing use of social media among teenagers. The number of teenagers who access social media continues to increase, reaching 153 million. Excessive use of social media makes teenagers addicted. Uncontrolled use of social media will disrupt mental health. This study aims to analyze the relationship between social media use and the mental health of teenagers at SMA Negeri 1 Godean. The method used in this research is a quantitative approach by collecting data through questionnaires distributed to 139 respondents. The research results show that the majority of respondents use social media in the frequent category, and there is a significant proportion of teenagers who experience mental health disorders. Analysis using the Spearman Rank correlation test shows an rho value of 0.627 with a p-value of 0.000, which indicates a significant positive relationship between social media use and adolescent mental health. It is hoped that these findings will provide insight for parents, educators and researchers regarding the importance of managing social media use for adolescent mental health.
