Abstract

Al-Quran literacy play a very important role in preventing exegetical radicalism in society. The aim of this article is to explore how a deeper understanding of the Koran can be a solution to overcome the increasing threat of radicalism. This article highlights that interpretive radicalism is often the result of a shallow understanding of the Al-Quran text. This is due to a lack of in-depth understanding of the historical, cultural and social context. Therefore, education that leads to good Al-Qur'an literacy can be the most important defense in overcoming weaknesses and potential different understandings. You will not only understand the scriptures literally, but also the context, purpose, and wisdom behind each passage. This approach helps individuals develop a more enlightened understanding and be open to different interpretations. Second, this article highlights the importance of Qur'anic education and reading and writing not only for scholars and religious scholars, but also for ordinary people. Comprehensive and affordable Al-Quran education helps raise society's collective awareness and enables each individual to wisely filter evolving information and interpretations. At the end of the article, he concludes that education and knowledge of the Koran play an important role in preventing exegetical radicalism. A deep and holistic understanding of the Koran should make society more resistant to the influence of extremism and radicalism which can damage societal peace and harmony.

Abstract

This article aims to investigate the principle of al-Asma’ in the Qur’an, with particular focus on Surah Hud, verse 123, and to contextualize it within the framework of religious moderation in Indonesia. The principle of al-Asma’ underscores that the names of Allah encompass complementary meanings that can guide the attainment of equilibrium between theological understanding and practical life. This study aims to situate the principle as a response to contemporary challenges confronting religious moderation, including social polarization, radicalism, and interreligious conflict. Methodologically, the research employs a thematic exegesis (tafsir maudhu‘i) approach combined with semiotic analysis, integrating textual interpretation of the Qur’an with the socio-religious realities of Indonesia. Primary data are drawn from the analysis of pertinent Qur’anic verses, classical and contemporary exegetical literature, as well as empirical studies concerning the practice of religious moderation within society. The findings indicate that a comprehensive understanding of the names of Allah in Surah Hud [11]:123 can provide a conceptual framework for advancing religious moderation. The singular meaning of Allah’s name affirms His oneness and sovereignty, while paired attributes such as Al-‘Aziz and Al-Hakim exemplify a balance between justice and wisdom. This interpretation supports the cultivation of a social ethic rooted in tolerance, empathy, and peaceful coexistence among religious communities. This study contributes to bridging theological exegesis and social praxis by positioning the principle of al-Asma’ as a foundational framework for preachers, educators, and policymakers to develop an inclusive and contextually relevant Islamic narrative that addresses the dynamics of religious life in Indonesia.Abstrak: Artikel ini bertujuan mengkaji kaidah al-Asma’ dalam Al-Qur’an, khususnya sebagaimana termaktub dalam Surah Hud ayat 123, dengan mengaitkannya pada konteks moderasi beragama di Indonesia. Prinsip al-Asma’ menegaskan bahwa nama-nama Allah memiliki makna yang saling melengkapi dan dapat dijadikan pedoman dalam membangun keseimbangan antara teologi dan praksis kehidupan. Penelitian ini berupaya mengontekstualisasikan prinsip tersebut sebagai respon terhadap tantangan moderasi beragama, seperti polarisasi sosial, radikalisme, dan konflik antarumat beragama. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan tafsir tematik dengan analisis semiotik, yang memadukan telaah teks Al-Qur’an dengan realitas sosial keagamaan di Indonesia. Data utama diperoleh dari analisis ayat-ayat relevan, literatur tafsir klasik dan kontemporer, serta studi empiris terkait praktik moderasi beragama di masyarakat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman komprehensif terhadap nama-nama Allah dalam Surah Hud ayat 123 dapat menjadi basis konseptual bagi moderasi beragama. Makna tunggal dari nama Allah menegaskan aspek keesaan dan kekuasaan-Nya, sedangkan makna gandengan seperti Al-‘Aziz dan Al-Hakim mencerminkan keseimbangan antara keadilan dan kebijaksanaan. Pemaknaan ini mendorong pembentukan etika sosial yang menekankan toleransi, empati, dan koeksistensi damai antarumat beragama. Kontribusi penelitian ini terletak pada upayanya menjembatani tafsir teologis dan praksis sosial, menjadikan prinsip al-Asma’ sebagai landasan bagi para dai, pendidik, dan pembuat kebijakan dalam mengembangkan narasi keislaman yang inklusif dan kontekstual terhadap dinamika keberagamaan di Indonesia.

Abstract

 AbstractThe book Ta’wil Mukhtalaf al-Hadith by Ibn Qutaybah al-Dinawari represents a significant effort to resolve apparent contradictions in hadith texts. This article aims to examine the book’s contribution to conflict resolution in religious understanding, specifically how it serves as a guide for critically and moderately understanding differences in hadith. This study employs content analysis of the Ta’wil Mukhtalaf al-Hadith text, combined with a historical-critical approach to explore the context of the book’s composition and its impact on the tradition of hadith interpretation. The findings reveal that Ibn Qutaybah successfully offers a comprehensive interpretive framework, emphasizing the importance of understanding the asbabul wurud (circumstances of the hadith’s narration) and employing reason in interpreting texts. This approach not only resolves apparent contradictions but also encourages readers to integrate a holistic understanding of the text. The study concludes that Ta’wil Mukhtalaf al-Hadith significantly contributes to fostering an inclusive religious understanding and avoiding polarization caused by narrow interpretations.Abstrak. Kitab Ta’wil Mukhtalaf al-Hadith karya Ibn Qutaybah al-Dinawari merupakan salah satu upaya signifikan dalam menyelesaikan kontradiksi yang tampak dalam teks-teks hadis. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji kontribusi kitab tersebut terhadap resolusi konflik dalam pemahaman keagamaan, khususnya bagaimana ia menjadi panduan untuk memahami perbedaan dalam hadis secara kritis dan moderat. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis isi (content analysis) terhadap teks kitab Ta’wil Mukhtalaf al-Hadith, dengan pendekatan historis-kritis untuk menelaah konteks penulisan kitab tersebut serta dampaknya pada tradisi pemahaman hadis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Ibn Qutaybah berhasil menawarkan kerangk a interpretasi yang komprehensif, dengan menekankan pentingnya memahami konteks asbabul wurud (sebab-sebab hadis diucapkan) serta penggunaan akal dalam menafsirkan teks. Pendekatan ini tidak hanya menyelesaikan kontradiksi yang terlihat tetapi juga mendorong pembaca untuk mengintegrasikan pemahaman teks secara holistik. Artikel ini menyimpulkan bahwa Ta’wil Mukhtalaf al-Hadith memberikan kontribusi yang signifikan dalam membangun pemahaman keagamaan yang inklusif dan menghindari polarisasi akibat interpretasi yang terbatas.
