Abstract

The water crisis is affecting the entire world, including Indonesia. Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara regions are vulnerable to such disasters. Low-income and traditional communities will be the first to feel the effects. Low-tech dew and fog harvesting buildings have been built in several parts of the world as alternative methods to address water scarcity. This technology necessitates the collaboration of multidisciplinary researchers and practitioners, particularly in architectural science, in the design development of this building. These building design requirements must be tailored to local Indonesian conditions. This study will examine the building opportunities that use this technology in the local Indonesian context, focusing on the potential for the adoption and modification of traditional buildings. This research method employs a narrative literature review of official document data and scientific studies. The study's findings indicate that traditional buildings in Indonesia have a high potential for the use of this technology.

Abstract

The internship at X Hospital aimed to gain practical experience as a medical physicist over two months, particularly in the treatment planning system activities in the radiotherapy unit. Additionally, this internship aimed to evaluate the Dose Volume Histogram (DVH) and analyze the effectiveness of the isodose lines. The treatment planning system is a simulation of cancer or tumor treatment using radiation with 3D conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT) techniques. The patient study object was a woman with post-mastectomy breast cancer who was to undergo adjuvant curative therapy. The prescribed dose was 50 Gy, divided into 25 fractions, using a 6 MV photon source. The irradiation was conducted with four fields, gantry angle 129° with collimator angle 270°, 310° with collimator angle 90°, 130° with collimator angle 0°, and 270° with collimator angle 0°, field size 14 x 14 cm, and irradiation distance of 100 cm. The TPS simulation results indicated that the dose received by the Planning Target Volume (PTV) covered more than 90% of the target volume (special treatment), while the dose received by the Organ at Risk (OAR) tended to be below the threshold limit, and the isodose lines ensured optimal radiation dose distribution to the breast cancer target area. This was demonstrated by the DVH curve.

Abstract

Abstract

Gamma scintigraphy is an examination that can be used to evaluate patients suspected of suffering from hyperthyroidism. This procedure involves administering the radiopharmaceutical Technetium-99m to the patient, followed by imaging using a gamma camera to check the function of the thyroid gland. The resulting image can be analysed using the ROI (Region of Interest) method to measure the percentage of radiopharmaceutical uptake by the thyroid. The aim of this study was to compare the uptake of radiopharmaceuticals in hyperthyroid patients and determine the correlation between uptake values and age and gender factors. This study involved 47 hyperthyroid patients, including 15 men and 32 women, aged between 10 and 75 years. The results showed that the average level of absorption (uptake) of radiopharmaceuticals by the right lobe of the thyroid (7.49% ± 7.41%) was higher than that by the left lobe (6.58% ± 6.31%). Additionally, men showed a higher uptake percentage (17.55% ± 14.34%) compared to women (12.44% ± 12.86%). Another finding was that there was a significant (strong) negative correlation between the uptake value and the patient's age, both in men (r = -0.641, p = 0.00988) and women (r = -0.674, p = 0.00010).
