Abstract

ABSTRACT From the standpoint of sustainable development and green political economy, this study examines the effects of Chinese nickel investment in Indonesia. This study assesses how these investments affect politics, the economy, society, and the environment using qualitative methodologies and literature reviews. The primary conclusions demonstrate that Chinese nickel investment significantly boosts Indonesia's economy through exports, employment creation, and technology transfer. But there are also drawbacks, such as environmental harm, social unrest, and economic reliance, which need to be addressed. In order to reduce the adverse effects of investment, this study emphasizes the significance of enforcing stringent environmental regulations, boosting community involvement locally, and using green technology within the framework of sustainable development. Under the newly elected Indonesian president in 2024, the country's chances for Chinese nickel investment will be heavily influenced by geopolitical trends, government policies that encourage foreign investment, environmental effect mitigation, and strategic bilateral relationship management. In the end, while these investments provide significant economic opportunity, sustainability initiatives must be addressed to ensure long-term benefits for Indonesia. Keywords: Nickel, Indonesia, China Sustainable Development, Green Political Economy ABSTRAK Penelitian ini menganalisis dampak investasi nikel China di Indonesia dari perspektif pembangunan berkelanjutan dan ekonomi politik hijau. Abstract

In Southeast Asia, inequality remains a persistent problem, as differences in access to education, healthcare, technology, and economic opportunities disrupt long-term growth and regional stability. One significant collaboration to address the issue is the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF), which was formed to strengthen ASEAN integration efforts and promote equitable development among its member countries. This research aims to analyze the role of JAIF in advancing equalities to achieve human security and Sustainable Development. Multiple data and information related to this research are described qualitatively and analyzed using the theoretical framework of human security and sustainable development. The research findings indicate the significance of JAIF in enhancing human security within ASEAN by employing the principles of freedom from fear, freedom from want, and freedom to live with dignity. JAIF-funded activities have supported initiatives in socioeconomic empowerment, security, and capacity building in ASEAN countries. The effectiveness of JAIF is influenced by the regional political structure, economic disparities, and institutional limitations. To enhance its effectiveness, stronger collaboration between ASEAN institutions and national governments is needed to make JAIF-funded programs more adaptive and inclusive.

Abstract

ABSTRACT   Poverty is not only a domestic problem in the context of globalization and worldwide economic integration, but it also directly affects a nation's standing on the map of global competition. Compared to other Southeast Asian nations, Indonesia has a low national poverty standard, which contributes to the country's ongoing difficult poverty issue. The Indonesian government's poverty standard is frequently criticized for being too low and failing to accurately represent the actual circumstances of the impoverished. This study looks at how national productivity, human resource quality, and human development accomplishments—the primary determinants of the global competitiveness index—are impacted by the setting of the poverty criterion. Using secondary data from national and international institutions and a descriptive qualitative approach, this study concludes that while a low poverty standard may give the appearance of effective poverty alleviation, it actually limits attempts to raise Indonesia's competitiveness in a sustainable way. Therefore, setting a more reasonable poverty standard is necessary before creating a more inclusive and long-lasting national competitiveness.
