Abstract

ABSTRACTThe development of digital technology, particularly in e-commerce, has transformed the way consumers shop, one of which is through the Paylater payment method on Shopee. While it simplifies transactions, the use of Paylater raises challenges in financial management, billing inaccuracies, and disputes between consumers and service providers. This study aims to analyze consumer responsibility and the challenges faced when using Paylater. Using legal responsibility theory and dispute resolution theory, this research employs a juridical-empirical method with an approach that combines legal regulation analysis and field observations. The results indicate that many consumers do not understand the details of additional costs, such as interest and late fees. Although consumers are responsible for payments, most face issues in financial management and inaccuracies in payment reminders. Shopee needs to provide clearer information in accordance with the provisions of POJK No. 77/POJK.01/2016 regarding the transparency of costs and payment mechanisms.Keywords: Shopee Paylater, consumer responsibility, dispute resolution.    ABSTRAK  Perkembangan teknologi digital, khususnya dalam e-commerce, telah mengubah cara konsumen berbelanja, salah satunya melalui metode pembayaran Paylater di Shopee. Meskipun mempermudah transaksi, penggunaan Paylater menimbulkan tantangan dalam pengelolaan keuangan, ketidakakuratan tagihan, dan sengketa antara konsumen dan penyedia layanan. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis tanggung jawab konsumen dan tantangan yang dihadapi dalam menggunakan Paylater. Menggunakan teori tanggung jawab hukum dan penyelesaian sengketa, penelitian ini menggunakan metode yuridis empiris dengan pendekatan analisis peraturan hukum dan observasi praktik di lapangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa banyak konsumen yang tidak memahami rincian biaya tambahan, seperti bunga dan denda keterlambatan. Meskipun konsumen bertanggung jawab atas pembayaran, sebagian besar mengalami masalah dalam pengelolaan keuangan dan ketidaktepatan pengingat pembayaran. Shopee perlu memberikan informasi yang lebih jelas sesuai dengan ketentuan POJK No. 77/POJK.01/2016 mengenai transparansi biaya dan mekanisme pembayaran.Kata kunci: Shopee paylater, tanggung jawab konsumen, penyelesaian sengketa.
