Abstract

Abstract. The author highlights that there is still a lot of discriminative action against women, even in the church environment. Through this article, the author intends to investigate the existence and value of women in the ancient times, in the cultures of Israel, Greece, and Rome, which represent the portrait of women before the time of Christ, and also the portrait of women in the narrative in the Gospel of John. For this reason, the author will utilize historical records and archaeology, in addition to, of course, the narrative of the role of women in the Gospel of John. The result of the study shows that women in ancient Jewish, Greek, and Roman cultures were viewed as inferior to men. In contrast, the Gospel of John presented Jesus as a transformer for women, who emancipated and placed them in the same position as Jesus' male disciples, with the same eligibility to be taught and to preach the gospel.Abstrak. Penulis menyoroti bahwa masih banyak terjadi perlakuan diskriminatif terhadap perempuan, bahkan di lingkungan gereja. Melalui tulisan ini penulis ingin menyelidiki eksistensi dan nilai perempuan di masa lampau, dalam budaya Israel, Yunani, Romawi, yang merepresentasikan potret perempuan sebelum masa Kristus, dan juga potret perempuan dalam narasi di Injil Yohanes. Untuk itu penulis akan memanfaatkan catatan-catatan dan arkeologi sejarah, selain tentu saja, juga narasi kiprah para perempuan di Injil Yohanes. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perempuan dalam kultur kuno Yahudi, Yunani, dan Romawi dipandang lebih rendah daripada laki-laki. Kontras dengan itu, Injil Yohanes menampilkan Yesus sebagai transformator bagi para perempuan, yang mengangkat dan meletakkan mereka di posisi yang sama dengan para murid Yesus yang pria, dengan kelayakan yang sama untuk diajar dan memberitakan Injil.

Abstract

Sola scriptura is one of the slogans echoed by the 16th century church reformers, specifically Martin Luther. This movement was certainly initiated because of various deviant practices of the church. Four centuries later, a movement called Fundamentalism was also born. This movement came at a time when the power of liberal theology was beginning to be felt strongly in schools, as well as in American churches. Liberalism began to create distrust in objective revelation and the absolute and infallible authority of the Bible. Faced with this challenge, the Fundamentalist movement was born with the belief that the Bible is the infallible word of God. At first glance, their slogan is similar to the reform movement by the reformers, especially Martin Luther. For the purpose of this paper, there is limited literature that compares the two, and the author considers this study to be important.  So that the reader not only has an understanding of the differences between the two views, but also increasingly has the correct and solid doctrine of the Bible and can provide a positive practical application in the church so as to avoid the various mistakes that have occurred in the church in history Therefore Christians must have a correct understanding in interpreting the Bible, because the Bible is the main means for the life of Christians in sanctification But before entering into the correct interpretation, of course, a Christian needs to have some strong basic principles about the doctrine of the Bible. The doctrine of the Bible and the interpretation of the Bible are two important things, ignoring one can lead to fatal things as has happened in church history.AbstrakSola scriptura adalah salah satu slogan yang didengungkan oleh para reformator gereja abad 16, secara khusus Martin Luther. Gerakan ini tentunya diawali karena berbagai praktek menyimpang dari gereja. Empat abad setelahnya lahir juga sebuah gerakan yang bernama Fundamentalisme. Gerakan ini hadir di saat kekuatan teologi liberal mulai dirasa kuat di sekolah-sekolah, juga di gereja-gereja Amerika. Liberalisme mulai menciptakan ketidakpercayaan pada wahyu obyektif dan otoritas mutlak dan sempurna dari Alkitab. Menghadapi tantangan ini, gerakan Fundamentalisme lahir dengan keyakinan  bahwa Alkitab adalah firman Allah yang tidak dapat salah. Sepintas slogan mereka mirip dengan gerakan reformasi oleh para reformator secara khusus Martin Luther. Tujuan penulisan ini adanya keterbatasan literasi yang mengkomparasikan keduanya, Penulis menganggap studi ini sebagai hal yang penting. Sehingga pembaca bukan hanya memiliki pemahaman tentang perbedaan kedua pandangan tersebut, namun juga semakin memiliki doktrin Alkitab yang benar dan kokoh dan dapat memberikan aplikasi praktis secara positif di dalam gereja sehingga terhindar dari berbagai kesalahan yang pernah terjadi di dalam gereja di dalam sejarah maka itu Orang Kristen harus memiliki pemahaman yang benar di dalam menginterpretasi Alkitab, Sebab Alkitab merupakan sarana utama bagi kehidupan orang Kristen dalam pengudusan  Namun sebelum masuk ke dalam penafsiran yang benar, tentunya seorang Kristen perlu memiliki beberapa prinsip dasar yang kuat tentang doktrin Alkitab. Doktrin tentang Alkitab dan penafsiran Alkitab adalah dua hal yang penting, mengabaikan salah satu bisa mengakibatkan hal yang fatal sebagaimana yang sudah terjadi dalam sejarah gereja.
