Abstract

The problem was found class that students got some difficulties in speaking skill. ESA (Engage, Study, and Activate) and PPP (Participation, Practice, and Production) techniques are teaching methods to teach English as a Foreign Language. It is believed that these methods are suitable to teach speaking because by using this method the student will have better participation in the classroom, encourage their curiosity in English learning. The aims of research was to analtyze speaking performance between the students who learned using ESA,and PPP. A quasi experimental research was administered as the design of the research. The sample was taken by using purposive sampling technique. The data was collected by using a speaking test. The data was analysed using the SPSS Independent T-test. Based on the result of independent sample t-test, it was found that ESA class had the significance value (Sig.) was 0.589 which was higher than the value 0.05. Thus, H0 was accepted, which meant that speaking skills of students who were taught by using ESA were the same as speaking skills of students who were taught by using conventional method. While PPP class had significance value (Sig.) was 0.029 which was smaller than the value 0.05 which indicated that speaking skills of students who were taught by using PPP were not the same as speaking skills of students who were taught by using conventional. Therefore, using PPP technique has positive effect for the students in speaking skill rather than ESA and Conventional.

Abstract

Abstrak Kemajuan teknologi menuntut guru dan tenaga kependidikan mesti melek terhadap literasi digital agar bisa menjalankan tugasnya di sekolah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui strategi yang dilakukan oleh kepala sekolah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan literasi digital guru dan tenaga kependidikan SMPN 7 Bukittinggi. Penelitian  ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif untuk menemukan jawaban terhadap masalah di lapangan. Data diperoleh melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Data diperoleh dengan mewawancarai kepala sekolah, para wakil kepala sekolah, para guru, dan tenaga kependidikan sebagai informan penelitian. Teknik analisis data dilakukan dengan pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa strategi peningkatan kemampuan literasi digital bagi guru  dan tenaga kependidikan di SMPN 7 Kota Bukittinggi adalah (1) aktif mengikuti pelatihan merdeka mengajar, mengikuti kegiatan webinar dan workshop secara online dan offline, pelatihan canva, pelatihan penggunaan chromebook, pelatihan pengembangan perpustakaan digital melalui kegiatan workshop, seminar, dan webinar, (2) melalui Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP), (3) pelatihan aplikasi pembelajaran bagi guru SMPN 7 Bukittinggi, dan (4) melalui kegiatan supervisi akademik. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa perlunya strategi yang tepat dari kepala sekolah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan literasi digital guru dan tenaga kependidikan. Disarankan kepada guru dan tenaga kependidikan untuk selalu memperbaharui pengetahuannya tentang literasi digital.   Abstrack Technological advances require teachers and education staff to be aware of digital literacy so they can carry out their duties at school. This research aims to determine the strategies used by school principals to improve the digital literacy skills of teachers and education staff at SMPN 7 Bukittinggi. This research is qualitative research with a descriptive approach to find answers to problems in the field. Data was obtained through observation, interviews and documentation. Data was obtained by interviewing the principal, deputy principals, teachers and education staff as research informants. Data analysis techniques are carried out by collecting data, reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions. The research results show that the strategy for increasing digital literacy skills for teachers and education staff at SMPN 7 Bukittinggi City is (1) actively participating in independent teaching training, taking part in webinars and workshops regularly. online and offline, canva training, usage training chromebook, digital library development training through activities workshop, seminars and webinars, (2) through Subject Teachers' Conferences (MGMP), (3) learning application training for SMPN 7 Bukittinggi teachers, and (4) through academic supervision activities. It can be concluded that appropriate strategies are needed from school principals to improve the digital literacy skills of teachers and education staff. It is recommended that teachers and education personnel always update their knowledge about digital literacy
