Abstract

Teacher competency development needs to be continuously trained and improved. The results of observations and findings show that there are still many teachers who have difficulties in creating effective learning media, especially in adapting technology to increase the attractiveness and understanding of students. Therefore, systematic training is needed to improve teachers' competence in creating innovative learning media. One of the solutions offered is the use of photonovela, an image and text-based learning media that resembles comics, which can help present teaching materials in a more interesting and easy-to-understand manner. This training program is designed to provide teachers with conceptual understanding and practical skills in creating photonovela media using Canva. This training is carried out through three main stages, namely planning, implementation, and evaluation of training results. The methods used include material presentations, discussions and questions and answers, as well as direct practice by participants. The results obtained show that this training has succeeded in improving teachers' competence in using Canva to create photonovelas as a learning medium. Teachers who take part in the training are able to create learning media that are more creative, interesting, and in accordance with the needs of students. Thus, this program is expected to have a positive impact on improving the quality of learning in Limbangan District, Garut.

Abstract

Science learning, especially Biology, requires an approach that can integrate various disciplines and utilize technology to improve students' understanding and critical thinking skills. In this context, the application of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)-based learning models is a strategic step to improve learning outcomes. This research will focus on efforts to overcome various kinds of problems that are thought to be the cause of the low critical thinking of students in science subjects, to be able to create a learning atmosphere that is fun, interesting, in this study Quizizz-based learning STEM model will be carried out. The approach in this study is a quantitative approach, with the research method Experiment One Group Pretest-Post test Design model. The sample used is a saturated sample, namely all VIIIA class students as many as 42 people. The instruments used in this study were multiple choice questions on the pretest. The results of data analysis using normality test and regression and correlation analysis showed a significant effect of the application of STEM-based biology learning with increased learning outcomes.

Abstract

Preconception is a very important initial understanding for students to have, because preconception can be used as a basis for better learning. One of them is regarding the concept of climate change material, there are still many students who have wrong conceptions. One way to find out students' preconceptions is by using visual representations. The use of visual representation can open students' preconceptions of abstract and complex concepts. This study aims to see and analyze the extent of high school students' understanding of climate change. This study uses qualitative descriptive, with a population and sample consisting of 63 tenth-grade high school students majoring in science at one of the high schools in Indonesia. The data collection technique was carried out by observation and interviews, in this study the researcher used semi-structured interviews. The results of the study revealed that students have a varied understanding of the concept of climate change, there are still many students who experience misconceptions about the concept of climate change. There are three categories of climate change concepts (1) the concept of climate change is correct with a percentage of 37% (23 students), 2) the concept of climate change is based on objects, reviewed from the overall picture that has been visualized by the respondents and 3) the concept of climate change is wrong with a proportion of 63% (40 students).  Of the three categories above, based on empirical evidence that has been carried out regarding students' preconceptions of climate change, including at the macroscopic level.
