Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the challenges faced by pencak silat colleges in South Tangerang City, specifically related to limited training facilities and lack of educational support. Using quantitative methods, data was obtained through a survey involving 34 pencak silat colleges in the region. The survey consisted of several indicators including the availability of facilities, government support, integration of pencak silat in formal education, and the frequency of competitions attended by students. The results of the analysis showed that 78% of the perguruan experienced significant limitations in training facilities, with an average score of 4.2 out of a scale of 5. 65% of respondents also revealed a lack of government support in the form of facilities and infrastructure assistance, which was reflected in the average score of 3.8. In addition, 71% of colleges rated the importance of increasing the time and quality of pencak silat lessons in schools, with an average score of 4.1. The results of this study suggest increased government support in the provision of facilities as well as the integration of pencak silat in the physical education curriculum in schools. Thus, pencak silat in South Tangerang City is expected to develop more optimally and sustainably as part of Indonesia's cultural heritage.

Abstract

This study examines the challenges of cultural preservation faced by the Muyu Tribe in South Papua amidst modernization, focusing on socio- cultural dynamics and indigenous adaptation strategies. The research addresses key issues including cultural value erosion, transformation of traditional knowledge systems, and tensions between customary institutions and modern governance structures. Employing a qualitative approach with systematic literature review methodology, Findings reveal that the Muyu Tribe maintains cultural resilience through three primary mechanisms: (1) reinterpretation of traditional values in modern contexts, (2) adaptation of customary institutions, and (3) innovation in intergenerational cultural transmission. Major challenges stem from culturally insensitive infrastructure development and limited community participation in development planning. The study emphasizes the need for rights-based cultural preservation approaches that integrate local wisdom with sustainable development, along with strengthening customary institutions' capacity in development governance. These findings contribute theoretically to development anthropology studies and offer practical implications for cultural policy formulation in indigenous territories.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the structure of customary leadership and the social roles of traditional leaders within the Tolaki ethnic group, as well as how these customary values are understood and practiced by the younger generation. The Sara system, as the customary law of the Tolaki people, plays a significant role in regulating social, cultural, and religious life. Traditional leaders such as Toono Sara, Meantu’u, Pabitara, and Tolea have strategic functions in maintaining social order and resolving conflicts through customary means. However, challenges have emerged due to changing times, where the younger generation tends to view these traditions merely as ceremonial practices, lacking deeper philosophical understanding. This study uses a literature review method, analyzing relevant scholarly articles, books, and research reports. The findings show that Sara not only has local significance but also contains universal values such as justice, deliberation, and social harmony. To sustain its relevance, synergy is needed among traditional leaders, youth, academics, and local governments to develop educational and participatory approaches that contextualize these values in modern life. This study contributes to the development of social and cultural studies and to the preservation of local wisdom amid modernization.
