Abstract

Discussing the Parable of the Good Samaritan, one of the main themes that can be discussed is the theology of cordiality "his heart was moved with compassion". This cordiality is revealed from the actions of the Good Samaritan figure. He helped a victim who needed a helping hand of compassion. Insinuatingly, the actions of the good Samaritan were driven by his cordiality. In the context of the Council of Nicaea, the beliefs about God are summarized in homoousios. The beliefs about God in Jesus are as follows: God who is one in essence and God who is in cordial with human being. This article will discuss the beliefs or spirituality derived from a combined analysis of the cordiality of the Good Samaritan and the concept of homoousios in the Council of Nicaea. The author uses historical-critical analysis and hermeneutic methods. These methods were carried out using library research. From the cordial actions of the Good Samaritan and the concept of homoousios, the author finds concepts and relevancies: Almighty God transcends the limits of human being; but also, Almighty God become human being and moves humans to do cordial acts of love specifically for the marginalized and suffering.

Abstract

This study analyzes the construction of the “white skin” beauty standard in Indonesia through a postcolonial perspective and examines the pastoral opportunities of the Catholic Church as a driving force in the discourse. This beauty standard is understood as a form of symbolic domination rooted in the legacy of colonialism, issues of race and gender, and socio-economic-capitalistic interests that are reproduced through the media and the cosmetics industry. The research uses a literature study method utilizing books and scientific journals. This method is enriched with structured interviews with young Catholics to explore critical awareness and the potential for transformative action. The interview process began with the preparation of questions, the search for respondents, the interviews themselves, and the recording of the interview results. The results of this study indicate that a single beauty narrative causes discrimination, feelings of inferiority, and lack of self-confidence in dark-skinned women, so that discursive criticism of the hegemony of colonial beauty standards is very necessary through critical education, strengthening local cultural identities, and developing diverse beauty standards. In this context, the Catholic Church, through its theology of inculturation and pastoral accompaniment, has a strategic role to play in promoting respect for diversity, human dignity, and social justice. Thus, the Church can function as a prophetic agent that dismantles the hegemony of colonial beauty standards and affirms the pluralistic and dignified identity of Indonesian women.

Abstract

This article interprets the Katoba Tradition in Muna culture as a cultural pedagogy of repentance and examines it from the perspective of Catholic theology, particularly in relation to the Sacrament of Penance. Rather than equating Katoba with the sacrament, this study argues that Katoba functions as a preparatory horizon that forms moral, awareness, responsibility, and openness to conversion. Using a qualitative literature-based approach supported by contextual insights, the article analyses the symbolic and ethical dimensions of Katoba in dialogue with Catholic understanding of repentance, reconciliation, and sacramental grace. Grounded in biblical theology and Church teaching, the study identifies both convergences and limits between Katoba and the Sacrament of Penance. While Katoba emphasizes moral purification and social harmony, the sacrament offers holistic reconciliation with God and the Church through Christ’s salvific grace. Employing Bevans’ synthesis and countercultural models, this article proposes an inculturative approach that respects Muna culture while safeguarding the theological uniqueness of the Sacrament of Penance.
