Abstract

Manajemen penggunaan pupuk pada perkebunan kelapa sawit selama ini tidak bijaksana sehingga menyebabkan ketergantungan kepada pupuk kimia. Penggunaan pupuk kimia yang berlebih berdampak buruk pada kelestarian lahan dan lingkungan. Pengelolaan yang tidak ramah lingkungan pada akhirnya mengancam keberlanjutan industri kelapa sawit dalam jangka Panjang. Pendekatan yang telah dilakukan adalah dengan pemanfaatan limbah Pabrik Kelapa Sawit (PKS) sebagai pupuk organik untuk menggantikan pupuk kimia. Namun pemanfaatan limbah PKS sebagai pupuk belum banyak diterima secara luas dalam perkebunan kelapa sawit. Oleh sebab itu penelitian ini mengkaji aspek-aspek kelembagaan terkait dengan penggunaan pupuk organik yang berasal dari limbah PKS sebagai pupuk di perkebunan kelapa sawit. Penelitiaan ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peran kelembagaan dalam mendukung pemanfaatan pupuk organik dari bahan limbah PKS. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Kabupaten Asahan, dengan studi kasus pada PT. Padasa Enam Utama. Model yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini mencakup ISM (Interpretive Structural Modeling) untuk menganalisis kebijakan-kebijakan dominan yang mendukung pemanfaatan limbah tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Kebijakan yang ditetapkan, dukungan manajemen, dan alokasi anggaran yang memadai turut memperkuat pencapaian efisiensi tersebut. Selain itu, sarana dan prasarana yang tersedia, keseragaman struktur organisasi, serta keselarasan persepsi antar pemangku kepentingan juga memainkan peran penting dalam kelancaran proses pengolahan limbah PKS. Meskipun ketersediaan lahan terbuka hijau memiliki peran yang lebih rendah dibandingkan dengan faktor lainnya, kontribusinya tetap signifikan dalam menjaga keseimbangan ekosistem yang diperlukan untuk mendukung keberlanjutan pengelolaan limbah dan pengelolaan perkebunan kelapa sawit secara keseluruhan

Abstract

This study aimed to determine whether sustainable palm oil plantation processing through the utilization of palm oil waste itself is very effective. This is based on the many errors in processing palm oil land that result in land damage, such as excessive use of chemical fertilizers. Data collection in this study used qualitative methods. Data collection was carried out using observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The study was conducted at PT. Padasa Enam Utama and PT. Inti Kamparindo Sejahtera. The study's findings indicate that using liquid palm oil waste and palm fronds is also very efficient. Palm oil waste will become an organic material that does not damage the soil. On the other hand, palm oil waste will also be helpful in fertilizing oil palm plants. So, using palm oil fronds as an alternative to fertilization is very good. This is because palm oil fronds will not damage the nutrients in the soil. Therefore, palm oil fronds and liquid waste can be an option in sustainable palm oil processing

Abstract

The sustainable management of palm oil plantations poses significant challenges, particularly in ensuring long-term efficiency and environmental sustainability. This study explores the impact of using Palm Oil Mill (PKS) waste as an organic fertilizer on enhancing the management efficiency of palm oil plantations. Using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), we evaluated plantation management efficiency at PT. Padasa Enam Utama over the period 2020-2023. Strengths of the Data Envelopment Analysis model include its objectivity and capacity to rate efficiency using numerical data rather than subjective opinions. The input variables included labor costs, fertilizer use, and land area, while output variables encompassed productivity and financial profits. Results reveal that average efficiency in 2020 was 0.85, categorizing it as “inefficient.” By 2021, efficiency improved to 0.92, achieving a “moderately efficient” status, and further rose to 0.95 in 2022, reaching “efficient” status. In 2023, efficiency slightly decreased to 0.94, though it remained within the efficient range. Findings suggest that PKS waste application significantly enhances plantation management efficiency, particularly through optimizing input and output variables. Additionally, employing PKS waste as organic fertilizer provides an eco-friendly alternative that reduces dependency on chemical fertilizers, contributing to sustainable farming practices. Research implications can contribute to supporting policies on the utilization of PKS waste to support more sustainable oil palm plantations.
