Abstract

This research examines the construction of women's dress code in Muhammad Hasbi Ash-Shiddiqi's Tafsir An-Nur and its compatibility with the concept of Sumbang Duo Baleh, especially Sumbang Bapakian, in the Minangkabau tradition. Through descriptive qualitative approach and comparative analysis, this study explores the similarities and differences between the two concepts in maintaining the value of modesty and honour of women. The results show that the principle of modest dress in Islam, as explained by Ash-Shiddiqi, is in line with local Minangkabau norms that emphasise the importance of keeping the aurat as a form of self-respect and social responsibility. While Ash-Shiddiqi offers flexibility in the face of modernity, Sumbang Duo Baleh tends to maintain a conservative approach. This analysis is expected to provide new insights for the Minangkabau Muslim community to integrate cultural and religious values harmoniously in their identity in the global era. Penelitian ini mengkaji konstruksi etika berpakaian wanita dalam tafsir An-Nur karya Muhammad Hasbi Ash-Shiddiqi dan kesesuaiannya dengan konsep Sumbang Duo Baleh, khususnya Sumbang Bapakian, dalam tradisi Minangkabau. Melalui pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dan analisis komparatif, penelitian ini menggali persamaan serta perbedaan antara kedua konsep dalam menjaga nilai kesopanan dan kehormatan perempuan. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa prinsip berpakaian sopan dalam Islam, sebagaimana dijelaskan Ash-Shiddiqi, sejalan dengan norma lokal Minangkabau yang menekankan pentingnya menjaga aurat sebagai bentuk penghormatan diri dan tanggung jawab sosial. Kendati Ash-Shiddiqi menawarkan fleksibilitas dalam menghadapi modernitas, Sumbang Duo Baleh cenderung mempertahankan pendekatan konservatif. Analisis ini diharapkan dapat memberikan wawasan baru bagi masyarakat Muslim Minangkabau untuk mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai budaya dan agama secara harmonis dalam identitas mereka di era global.

Abstract

Character education plays a central role in shaping the younger generation as the backbone of the nation's future, emphasizing values such as responsibility, honesty, patriotism, leadership, tolerance, and discipline. Young people with strong character are expected to bring energy, vision, and innovation to strengthen national resilience, encompassing economic, social, cultural, and technological aspects. Character education establishes a solid foundation for the personality of the younger generation by emphasizing national values such as integrity, responsibility, and a spirit of mutual cooperation. This is expected to strengthen the foundation of national security and stability through an understanding of national values connected to the roots and identity of the nation. Moreover, character education also plays a role in shaping responsible leadership among the younger generation. They are expected to be agents of change who are wise, collaborate effectively, and lead with integrity, especially in the context of national resilience. The importance of character education is not only related to the formation of individuals who are personally good but also creates a strong foundation for the active role of the younger generation in maintaining national resilience. Integration into the curriculum, involvement of parents and the community, non-formal education, and experience-based approaches are strategies to achieve more integrated and holistic character education. Research methods that can be employed involve qualitative approaches and literature reviews to delve into the analysis of the concepts of character education, the role of the younger generation, and national resilience. Thus, it is expected that character education can be an effective instrument in shaping the younger generation as a positive force in addressing the complex dynamics of society and the nation.
