Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of Academic Orientation Programs for incoming freshmen, shifters, and transferees in a col-lege setting. The program is designed to familiarize students with the school environment, policies, rules, and the socio-cultural cli-mate, helping them navigate academic life. The study assessed stu-dents’ knowledge levels before and after the orientation using a pre-test and post-test, with a control group of students who did not par-ticipate in the orientation for comparison. Results revealed that students in the experimental group (those who participated in the orientation) had an average knowledge level before the orientation, which improved significantly after the pro-gram. Post-test scores indicated a notable increase in students' un-derstanding of academic policies, suggesting that the orientation had a positive effect on their knowledge. In contrast, students in the control group, who did not undergo the orientation, showed no sig-nificant improvement in their knowledge of academic policies. This comparison strengthens the conclusion that the orientation pro-gram effectively enhanced students’ understanding of the school’s academic environment. Common mistakes related to academic poli-cies, procedures, and programs were identified in both groups, with the experimental group making fewer errors after the orientation. The study recommends strategies to enhance the orientation program, including conducting a pre-assessment of student needs, developing relevant materials, employing a holistic delivery ap-proach, and ensuring continuous evaluation. It also suggests that integrating orientation content consistently into classroom policies and course offerings can reinforce students’ understanding. The study concludes that regular and reinforced orientation pro-grams are crucial for improving students' knowledge of academic policies. The inclusion of a control group reinforces the effectiveness of the orientation program, and further research is encouraged to explore additional factors influencing the effectiveness of orienta-tion and its impact on students’ academic success.

Abstract

"This study seeks to determine the extent to which personnel at BU Polangui Campus (BUPC) are aware of and accept the vision of Bicol University. A cross-sectional population survey was conducted using a validated questionnaire. Descriptive and correlational analyses were applied to data from 76 out of 85personnel. Results indicate that the average awareness rating was 92% (Outstanding). Among respondents, 92% accepted the vision, 1.32% found it unacceptable, and 6.58% did not respond. These findings suggest that BUPC personnel are not only fully aware of the vision but also largely accept it."The results indicate that, overall, BUPC staff have a high level of awareness and acceptability of the university’s vision. However, discrepancies in responses suggest that some staff members may struggle to fully engage with the vision, particularly non-teaching staff. The findings suggest that factors such as communication strategies and organizational culture may influence the varying levels of acceptance. The study concludes that clear and consistent communication of the university’s vision, alongside targeted interventions for staff with reservations, is essential for fostering greater alignment and achieving institutional goals. Recommendations include enhancing communication efforts and creating opportunities for all staff to contribute to the realization of the vision.

Abstract

The over-all objective of the study is to document and evaluate the outcomes of the extension program/project of the Sorsogon State University Specifically, it intends to describe the inputs, activities, outputs, outcomes, and impacts; validate the impact pathway, describe the social, environmental, or economic impact to the beneficiaries; document lessons learned in implementation; and recommend policies for the improvement of the design and replication of the program/project. The project has started on February 2015 in the five (5) coastal barangays of Sorsogon City, namely; Brgy. Rizal, Brgy. Bulabog, Brgy. Bitan-o, Brgy. Buhatan, and Brgy. Talisay. A total of 1,218 beneficiaries along the coastal area barangays were trained and actively involved in the project for the past 5 years with an over-all rating described as better. There are at least 700 mangroves planted in each mentioned coastal areas during the launching of the project with the Head of City Agriculture Office, Mrs. Adeline J. Detera, Student Leaders, and other volunteers. The focus is only Barangay Talisay and the subject for impact evaluation of the project. (2008Primavera, J., & Esteban, J. M. A.) In one of the studies conducted, despite heavy funds for massive rehabilitation of mangrove forests over the last two decades, the long-term survival rates of mangroves are generally low at 10-20%. Poor survival can be mainly traced to two factors: inappropriate species and sites selection.
