Abstract

This research aims to analyse the influence of wages, job opportunities and human development index (IPM) on educated unemployment in West Sumatra during the 2019–2023 period in 19 districts and cities. The approach used is quantitative with the panel data regression method. The data used is secondary data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of districts/cities in West Sumatra Province. The analysis tool used is panel data regression analysis with the Eviews 13 program. The results of the analysis show that wages have a negative and significant effect on educated unemployment in West Sumatra, job opportunities have a negative and significant effect on educated unemployment in West Sumatra, while IPM has a positive and significant effect on educated unemployment in West Sumatra. Wage variables, job opportunities and human development index (IPM) together have a significant effect on educated unemployment in West Sumatra.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of socioeconomic characteristics on the opportunities for working-age women to work in the informal sector in West Sumatra Province. The approach used is quantitative with a logistic regression method, based on secondary data from the 2020 National Socioeconomic Survey (SUSENAS) published by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). The independent variables described include age, marital status, poverty status, education level, and area of residence. The estimation results show that every additional year of working-age women's age significantly increases the opportunity to work in the informal sector. In addition, marital status, coming from a poor household, having an education lower than high school, and living in a rural area also significantly increase the likelihood of women working in the informal sector. These findings emphasize the importance of policy interventions focused on improving access to education, economic empowerment, and equitable regional development to reduce gender inequality in the informal employment sector in West Sumatra. Keywords: informal sector, female labor, socioeconomic characteristics, logistic regression, West Sumatra.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the determinants of employment opportunities in West Sumatra Province during the period 2017 to 2023. The approach used is quantitative, employing panel data regression methods and utilizing secondary data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). The variables analyzed include economic growth, education level, wages, and investment across 19 regencies/cities in West Sumatra Province. The estimation results show that simultaneously, economic growth, education level, wages, and investment collectively influence the increase in employment opportunities. Partially, economic growth has a positive and significant effect on increasing employment opportunities. Conversely, the education level shows a positive but not significant effect, while wages have a negative effect, and investment has a positive but not significant effect on employment opportunities. These findings indicate that economic growth plays a crucial role in generating employment opportunities, whereas the other variables have not yet demonstrated a strong contribution. Therefore, active government involvement is required to enhance employment opportunities, including through labor-intensive sectors that can absorb a large workforce.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of education level, unemployment, and poverty on income inequality in West Sumatra. The research utilizes secondary data with a quantitative approach through panel data regression methods, using data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). The variables analyzed include education level, unemployment, poverty, and income inequality. Based on the analysis results, the fixed effect model was selected. The estimation reveals that education level has a negative and significant effect on income inequality, unemployment has a positive but insignificant effect, while poverty has a positive and significant effect. Simultaneously, these three variables significantly influence income inequality in West Sumatra. The findings highlight the importance of improving education quality, providing job training programs, and creating new job opportunities as measures to reduce poverty and mitigate income inequality.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of various factors on the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) per capita of the 10 provinces with the lowest per capita GRDP in Indonesia over the period 2016–2024. The factors analyzed include Investment, Human Development Index (HDI), Labor Force, Minimum Wage. The research employs secondary data obtained from various sources, including the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) and other relevant institutions. The analytical method used is panel data regression, processed using Eviews 12 with the Random Effect Model (REM) approach. The results indicate that investment has a positive and significant effect on GRDP per capita, while the Human Development Index (HDI) has a negative and insignificant effect. The labor force variable shows a positive but insignificant effect, and the minimum wage has a positive and significant effect on the GRDP per capita of the 10 lowest-ranked provinces in Indonesia during the 2016–2024 period.

Abstract

This study scrutinizes the determinants of Non-Performing Loan (NPL) ratio within conventional banking institutions in Indonesia over the interval spanning from the first quarter of 2012 to the second quarter of 2025. The inquiry investigates both bank specific constituents, namely the Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), a proxy for profitability (Return on Assets/ROA), and the Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR), alongside macroeconomic externalities, including economic growth (GDP), Inflation (CPI), and lending interest rates. Employing quarterly time series data, the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model is utilized to delineate short - term fluctuations and ascertain long-run cointegration. The bound test substantiates a robust cointegrating relationship among the variables, evidenced by an F-Statistic of 15.421, which exceeds the upper bound critical threshold at the 1% significance level. Estimation outcomes reveal that ROA emerges as the most dominant determinant, exerting a negative and significant influence, a finding consistent with the Bad Management Hypothesis. Conversely, CAR and lending rates demonstrate a positive and significant impact, aligning with Agency Theory and Credit Cycles Theory. Economic growth exhibits a negative and significant effect, thereby corroborating the Procyclicality Theory. Meanwhile, LDR and Inflation are found to exert no significant influence over the long term. The error Correction Model indicates a highly stable adjustment mechanism, with an exceptionally rapid speed of convergence amounting to 90.09% per quarter. These findings imply that sustaining bank profitability and implementing prudent lending rate policies are imperative for controlling NPLs. Consequently, regulatory authorities ought to monitor not only the adequacy of capital but also the behavior tendencies of banks in deploying their excess capital.
