<![CDATA[Abstract: This paper discusses the society’s knowledge to the woods, based on the results of research for thesis writing in the Department of Sociology FIS UNP. Results of this study demonstrate knowledge of illegal loggers in the woods in Nagari Unggan. The illegal loggers have a unique system of self-knowledge and different from society in general namely, A) traditional knowledge of illegal loggers, (a) somel workers know the rituals that must be performed while in the woods, (b) they have knowledge about the existing trees in the woods, (c) in do their job they knowing pantangan di imbo (in the woods), B) knowledge of illegal logers to the woods, (1) the perpetrators of illegal logging forests as a source of money, (2) their job have the challenge to their life (sabolah kaki di panjaro sabolah kaki di kubugh),( 3) in order their work successfully, they are cooperating with oknum (piti palicin). knowledge of the illegal loggers (somel workers) against a forest the results of their interpretation of the experience for working as somel. Abstrak: Tulisan ini membahas mengenai pengetahuan masyarakat terhadap hutan, berdasarkan hasil penelitian untuk penulisan skripsi di jurusan sosiologi FIS UNP. Hasil penelitian ini memperlihatkan pengetahuan pelaku illegal logging terhadap hutan di Nagari Unggan. Para pelaku illegal logging memiliki sistem pengetahuan sendiri yang khas dan berbeda dari masyarakat umumnya yaitu, A) Pengetahuan tradisional pelaku illegal logging, (a) para pekerja somel mengetahui ritual-ritual yang harus dilakukan ketika berada di hutan, (b) mereka memiliki pengetahuan tentang pohon yang ada di hutan, (c) dalam menjalankan pekerjaan mereka mengetahui pantangan di imbo (di dalam hutan), B) Pengetahuan pelaku illegal logging terhadap hutan, (1) para pelaku illegal logging menganggap hutan sebagai sumber uang, (2) pekerjaan mereka memiliki tantangan mempertaruhkan nyawa (sabolah kaki di panjaro sabolah kaki di kubugh), (3) agar pekerjaan mereka berhasil, mereka bekerja sama dengan oknum (piti palicin). Pengetahuan pelaku illegal logging (pekerja somel) terhadap hutan merupakan hasil interprestasi mereka dari pengalaman selama bekerja sebagai pekerja somel.]]>
