Abstract

This study examines the implementation of multicultural-based Islamic Cultural History (SKI) learning strategies in strengthening religious tolerance at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Yogyakarta. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this research analyzes how SKI learning is designed and implemented to cultivate tolerant attitudes among students. The research findings indicate that the integration of multicultural values in SKI learning through dialogical discussion methods, historical case studies, and visits to diverse religious sites has proven effective in enhancing students' understanding and tolerance attitudes. Learning strategies that prioritize appreciation for diversity, contextual learning, and critical reflection are capable of shaping students' character to be inclusive and respectful of differences. This study recommends strengthening the multicultural-based SKI curriculum as an instrument of character education in madrasahs.

Abstract

This qualitative research aims to explore the development of social empathy character through contextual learning of zakat and sadaqah material at MIN 1 Bantul. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with case study method, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers, students, and school principals. The results showed that contextual learning of zakat and sadaqah effectively develops students' social empathy through three main strategies: (1) direct observation of social conditions in the surrounding environment, (2) zakat and sadaqah practice projects involving students directly, and (3) reflection and discussion on the social impacts of zakat and sadaqah. The findings indicate that when zakat and sadaqah materials are taught contextually by connecting them to real social realities, students not only understand the concepts theoretically but also develop sensitivity and empathy towards others' social conditions. This research contributes to the development of character-based PAI learning methods in elementary madrasahs.

The study employs a qualitative approach with classroom action research method conducted in two cycles. The research subjects were 32 students from class XI IPA 3. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, critical thinking skills tests, and documentation. The results showed that the implementation of the PBL method can enhance students' critical thinking skills in understanding Ushul Fiqh concepts. In cycle I, the average critical thinking skills score reached 72.5 with a good category, increasing to 84.3 in cycle II with an excellent category. Critical thinking skill indicators that experienced improvement included the ability to analyze, evaluate, and make inferences regarding Islamic legal issues.
