Abstract

This research explores the perspectives of the upper economic classes in Mumbai on aging, with a particular focus on the impact of social norms and Bollywood media representation. Data was collected through a survey involving 32 individuals from this demographic using Google Forms and analyzed using SPSS with detailed statistical techniques. The findings of this study reveal a common negative perception of aging among affluent Mumbaikars, which is largely influenced by social norms and depictions of aging in Bollywood films. Participants expressed concerns about social pressure to maintain a youthful appearance and negative stereotypes related to aging in popular media. Additionally, other aspects of urban life, including work pressures and modern lifestyles, also influence their views on aging. Many participants adopted strategies such as meditation and a healthy lifestyle to combat age-related anxiety. This study highlights the importance of more inclusive media representation and improved health services to foster positive attitudes towards aging in a youth-centric culture like Mumbai. Policy recommendations include educational programs and media campaigns aimed at challenging age stereotypes and encouraging a more complex and diverse understanding of aging. This study also acknowledges limitations, including a sample size limited to one economic class and the use of survey methods that may not capture the full complexity of individual experiences. Therefore, further studies involving different economic classes and more in-depth qualitative methods are recommended to provide more comprehensive insights. Thus, this research contributes to the growing literature on aging in modern urban societies and offers a basis for more effective policy interventions.

Abstract

This study investigates the critical issues of investment literacy and the utilization of security crowdfunding within the Islamic capital market in the digital age. By conducting a systematic literature review (SLR), we aim to understand how investment knowledge impacts the effectiveness of Sharia-compliant security crowdfunding platforms. The review includes studies from various regions focusing on individual investors engaged in Islamic capital markets. Our findings indicate a significant gap in investment literacy among potential investors. Many lack a basic understanding of financial principles, risk management, and the specifics of Sharia-compliant investments. This deficiency hampers the effective use of security crowdfunding platforms. Additionally, the increasing reliance on digital platforms for investment activities highlights the need for targeted educational programs and stronger regulatory frameworks. To address these challenges, we recommend developing comprehensive educational initiatives focused on Islamic finance principles. Additionally, we suggest enhancing regulatory support to foster more informed and inclusive participation in the Islamic financial ecosystem. Future research should also explore specific demographic factors affecting investment literacy and the effectiveness of different educational programs.

Abstract

Mumbai's urban upper economic class faces unique pressures to maintain youthfulness, shaped by pervasive societal norms and the influential portrayals of ageing in Bollywood media. This study aims to evaluate how Bollywood's representations impact perceptions of ageing among Mumbai's affluent, and to explore the implications for media literacy and educational strategies. Employing a quantitative survey approach, data were collected from 32 upper-class residents of Mumbai using Google Forms and analyzed with SPSS to assess attitudes toward ageing, the influence of media, and gendered expectations. The findings reveal that Bollywood's youth-centric narratives significantly contribute to negative perceptions of ageing, reinforcing ageist stereotypes and intensifying the desire to appear youthful, with notable differences between male and female respondents. These results underscore the urgent need for inclusive and diverse media representations, as well as the integration of media literacy interventions in educational and community settings to foster critical engagement with age-related stereotypes. The study concludes that promoting media literacy and age-inclusive content can play a pivotal role in challenging societal biases, supporting intergenerational understanding, and informing policy and curriculum development in urban India.

Abstract

Effective machine maintenance is key to ensuring productivity and operational efficiency in the industrial sector, where although preventive maintenance has become the standard, technological developments are now introducing more advanced predictive maintenance strategies, but a comprehensive comparison of the effectiveness of these two approaches in improving machine performance is still limited. This study aims to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of the efficacy of preventive and predictive maintenance methods, especially in the manufacturing industry, through a literature search in Scopus, Web of Science, and IEEE Xplore databases with related keywords, where empirical studies comparing both methods and their impacts on machine performance, including availability, reliability, and maintenance costs, are included. Meta-analysis was used to measure the difference in effectiveness between the methods, with study quality assessed using the AMSTAR checklist. The results showed that of the 25 studies that met the inclusion criteria, predictive maintenance was shown to be more effective in improving availability than preventive maintenance (effect size = 0.75, 95% CI: 0.60-0.90, p < 0.01), where factors such as cost, technology level, and machine type influenced the selection of the optimal maintenance method. This systematic review indicates that predictive maintenance is more effective in improving machine performance than preventive methods. However, the choice of the optimal method must be tailored to the specific industry context, and these findings are essential for decision-making in industrial maintenance management.
