Abstract

Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who are hospitalized often require coordinated care to achieve safe glycemic control. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of structured education and timing coordination of blood glucose monitoring, insulin administration, and meal provision among hospitalized patients with type 2 diabetes. This quasi-experimental study used a pretest-posttest control group design involving 30 respondents divided into intervention and control groups. The intervention group received structured education and timing coordination, while the control group received standard care. In the intervention group, mean random blood glucose decreased from 221.29 ± 15.92 mg/dL to 166.86 ± 15.11 mg/dL. In the control group, mean random blood glucose changed slightly from 219.37 ± 13.32 mg/dL to 217.87 ± 12.99 mg/dL. The reduction in random blood glucose was significantly greater in the intervention group than in the control group (p < 0.001). Structured education and timing coordination improved glycemic control among hospitalized patients with type 2 diabetes.
