Abstract

Background: Low back pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal disorders experienced by nurses due to high physical workload, repetitive movements, prolonged standing, and improper working posture. Excessive or inappropriate physical activity without adequate ergonomic application may increase the risk of low back pain and negatively affect nurses’ performance and quality of care. Purpose: To analyze the relationship between physical activity and low back pain complaints among nurses. Method: This study employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive correlational design using a cross-sectional method. A total of 228 nurses were selected using convenience sampling. Physical activity was measured using the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ), while low back pain complaints were assessed using a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank (Rho) test with a significance level of α = 0.05. Results: A significant positive relationship between physical activity and low back pain complaints (p = 0.000; r = 0.513). Higher levels of physical activity were associated with increased low back pain complaints among nurses. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between physical activity and low back pain complaints among nurses. These findings highlight the importance of managing physical activity and implementing ergonomic principles to prevent low back pain in nursing practice.   Keywords: Low Back Pain; Musculoskeletal Disorders; Nurses; Physical Activity.

Abstract

Insomnia is a sleep disorder characterized by difficulty initiating or maintaining sleep and is commonly experienced by nursing students who face substantial academic demands. This condition has the potential to increase academic stress, reduce concentration, and impair cognitive functions such as memory and critical thinking, thereby diminishing the effectiveness of the learning process. This study aimed to examine the relationship between insomnia severity and learning concentration among nursing students. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was employed. The study population comprised 316 undergraduate nursing students at Sultan Agung Islamic University, with 177 respondents selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using the KSPBJ-IRS instrument to measure insomnia severity and a learning concentration questionnaire adapted from previous research. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 25 and Somers’ d correlation test. The results indicated a statistically significant relationship between insomnia severity and learning concentration, with a negative correlation direction. The correlation coefficient was -0.502 with a p-value of 0.000. These findings suggest that higher levels of insomnia are associated with lower learning concentration among students. This study concludes that there is a significant negative relationship between insomnia severity and learning concentration. The findings are expected to serve as a foundation for educational institutions in developing effective promotive interventions.

Abstract

Nursing students constitute a population that is particularly vulnerable to stress due to academic demands, clinical practice requirements, and complex psychosocial pressures. Poorly managed stress may adversely affect mental health, learning motivation, and academic performance. This study aimed to explore the levels of stress among students of the Faculty of Nursing at Sultan Agung Islamic University, Semarang. A descriptive study design with an exploratory quantitative approach was employed. The sample consisted of active students selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected using a stress-level questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Univariate analysis was conducted to describe the frequency distribution of respondents’ stress levels. The findings revealed that the majority of students experienced moderate stress, followed by mild and severe stress. Academic factors, workload, clinical practice demands, and time pressure were identified as the main contributors to stress. These results highlight the crucial role of educational institutions in providing psychological support programs and promoting adaptive coping strategies to enhance student well-being and support academic success.

Abstract

Scabies is a contagious skin disease caused by infestation of the mite Sarcoptes scabiei and commonly occurs in densely populated environments such as Islamic boarding schools. Poor personal hygiene behavior is a major risk factor that facilitates the transmission of scabies. Miftahul Huda Islamic Boarding School in Kendal reported a high number of skin disease complaints over the past three months, indicating the need for health interventions in the form of personal hygiene education to prevent and reduce scabies symptoms among students. To determine the effect of personal hygiene education on scabies symptoms among students at Miftahul Huda Islamic Boarding School, Kendal. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-test post-test approach. A total of 27 students were selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected using an 8-item scabies symptom questionnaire. Data analysis included descriptive analysis, Kolmogorov–Smirnov and Shapiro–Wilk normality tests, and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test due to non-normal data distribution. The mean scabies symptom score before the intervention was 7.85 and decreased to 0.00 after the personal hygiene education. The Wilcoxon test showed a Z value of −4.916 with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Personal hygiene education has a significant effect on reducing scabies symptoms among students.
