Abstract

Abstract

The low level of literacy among elementary school students remains a serious issue in Indonesia. One of the main causes is the lack of access to a variety of reading materials and the limited availability of supporting facilities, such as adequate libraries. At SD Negeri 5 Bedali Kediri East Java, there is no library available, and most of the existing book collection consists of textbooks and old reading materials that are less appealing to students. This condition has led to low reading interest and suboptimal literacy skills among students. Therefore, this activity aims to improve students’ reading interest and literacy skills through the Reading Corner program as an alternative solution that facilitates direct access to reading materials within the classroom. The program was initiated by students from the 2025 Community Service Program (KKN) of the Islamic University of Tribakti Lirboyo Kediri (UIT), Group 18, as part of their community service in the field of education. The method used was descriptive qualitative research with an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach. Data were collected through observations and interviews with teachers, students, and the school environment. The implementation of the program included the planning stage, the creation of the reading corner, daily reading activities, and the evaluation and renewal of the reading corner’s content. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in students’ reading interest, positive behavioral changes, and greater enthusiasm in utilizing their free time for reading. Teachers and students gave positive responses to the existence of the reading corner, which has become an effective medium for strengthening literacy culture. The Reading Corner program proved effective in improving literacy in elementary schools, not only by expanding access to reading materials but also by helping to build a sustainable reading culture within the school environment. Thus, this initiative serves as an important solution in addressing the challenge of low literacy levels and supports the comprehensive development of students’ potential. Abstract

Purpose/Objectives – The objectives of this article are to analyze the relevance of modern management principles from a Sharia economics perspective, identify similarities and possible differences between the orientation of efficiency in modern management and Islamic values, and formulate a conceptual framework that combines modern management, Islamic values, and professionalism in a complementary model. Method – This study employs a qualitative research approach, utilizing a library-based research method, with data sources comprising modern management literature, Islamic economics, scientific journal articles, and normative Islamic sources. Data analysis was conducted descriptively, analytically, conceptually, and comparatively to identify the compatibility between modern management principles and Islamic economic values. Findings – The study's results indicate that modern management principles align closely with Sharia values, including tauhid, amanah, justice, ihsan, and maslahah, when applied within the framework of Islamic ethics. Professionalism, which encompasses itqan, competence, amanah, and responsibility, serves as the integrative meeting point between modern management and Sharia economics. Limitations – The use of a qualitative approach, based on library research, which is conceptual and normative in nature, means that empirical field data do not support the study's results. This study did not directly observe the practice of modern management in specific Islamic economic institutions, so it was unable to describe the dynamics of implementation, operational challenges, and variations in institutional contexts in a factual manner. In addition, the data sources used were limited to literature, scientific journals, and normative Islamic sources, which could potentially lead to limitations in perspective due to differences in conceptual interpretation among authors. Originality/Value – This article emphasizes that modern management is not a concept that conflicts with Islamic economics, but rather a strategic instrument for realizing professional, ethical, and welfare-oriented management of Islamic economic institutions.

Abstract

Kata kunci: BMT, pembiayaan syariah, risiko pembiayaan, prinsip 5C, lembaga keuangan mikro Abstract Financing is one of the main functions of Baitul Maal wat Tamwil (BMT). However, the high risk of non-performing financing requires an appropriate analysis mechanism. This article analyzes the application of the 5C principle (Character, Capacity, Capital, Collateral, and Condition) as a risk mitigation instrument at BMT NU Kediri. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study examines how BMT NU Kediri assesses customer eligibility through interviews, field observations, and document reviews. The results of the analysis show that the 5C principle is effective in screening customers who are eligible for financing. Character and business capacity are dominant aspects in preventing moral hazard and business failure, while capital and collateral serve as safety nets. External conditions provide additional perspectives for BMT NU Kediri in anticipating market fluctuations and regulatory challenges. However, BMT NU Kediri faces obstacles in the form of limited customer financial data, low-value collateral, and external factors that are difficult to control. Therefore, business assistance strategies, financial literacy, and product innovation are needed to make the application of the 5C principles more effective in minimizing financing risks.
