Abstract

Mathematical creative thinking involves using diverse ideas to solve problems, generating unique solutions, and developing high-level cognitive skills. The purpose of this research is to describe the mathematical creative thinking ability of students of SMAN 1 Bantur Malang by using indicators consisting of three indicators, including (a) fluency, (b) flexibility, and (c) novelty. This research method is descriptive qualitative with the research subjects are 20 grade X students. Data collection was done through tests and interviews. The instruments used in this study were two questions about exponent material. The results of the analysis show that the potential of students' mathematical thinking and students' creative thinking is still not optimal. The percentage of students who can fulfill the fluency indicator is 50% which is in the low category, while the percentage of students who can fulfill the flexibility indicator is 25% and the novelty indicator is 5% which is in the very low category. The lowest indicator that can be fulfilled by students is the novelty indicator, while the highest indicator that can be fulfilled by students is the fluency indicator.  Teachers are advised to familiarize students with solving problems that have different answers and ways/strategies of solving them so that creative thinking skills can be trained.

Abstract

The application of the discovery learning model to junior high school students in central and peripheral angles to determine students' mathematics learning outcomes. The method used is a qualitative case study in terms of the problems that arise. This research was applied to 8th grade students at El-Qiss Bimbel Foundation located in Segaran Village, Malang Regency. The research subjects were taken as many as 5 students who were selected based on the highest improvement in students' mathematics learning outcomes. The discovery learning model was chosen because this learning model can encourage students to be independent in learning and more active during the learning process, especially in solving mathematical problems contextually in order to improve students' learning outcomes. The data collection process in the form of observations and interviews was conducted to gather information in the early stages of the research. Data collection in the form of pre-test and post-test was conducted before and after the application of discovery learning. The pre-test and post-test questions were 5 essay questions on the topic of central angle and circumferential angle of the circle. It was found that the application of the Discovery Learning model succeeded in improving students' learning outcomes and understanding of the central and circumferential angles. Students who are actively involved in the learning process with Discovery Learning tend to have a deeper understanding and are useful for improving students' mathematics learning outcomes.
