Abstract

This study looks into how TikTok mediated the activities of its users in exploring fashion hobbies, particularly in the street event known as Citayam Fashion Week (CFW).  Previous studies looked into TikTok as a social media used for various purposes, including health information platforms, promotion channels, and education resources. This study aims to provide a distinct point of view of TikTok, specifically in the Indonesian context, by looking into TikTok as a social space for people from diverse backgrounds. Further, this study also will investigate how TikTok mediated its users to express their interests or hobbies, and how the fact will impact their social life. In doing so, I employ qualitative content analysis to examine online materials related to CFW. It includes videos uploaded on online platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, or mainstream media outlets. This study found that TikTok dissolves the boundaries between social classes. TikTok users from different backgrounds could express their ideas without the necessity of specific requirements. In addition, TikTok also economically affects people involved in its content, either actors on the TikTok video or people behind the scenes.

Abstract

This article discusses the urgency of media literacy in addressing the framing of cynicism and conflict issues between tribes, religions, races and groups carried out by the mass media in Indonesia. Specifically, this study attempts to contribute the role of media literacy in minimizing cynicism between tribes, religions, races and groups. Through text studies, this article argues that literacy is considered as science. The more educated people, the more acquired knowledge will be. It means that when people receive more information from the mass media, they will certainly be wiser. Further, to raise public awareness, a systematic way through education, both formal and non-formal, is needed. Hence, harmonious human relations could be realized, regardless of ethnic status, race, and religious belief.

Abstract

This study explores the emergence of Islamic relationship themes on Indonesian social media platforms, specifically Instagram and TikTok. It primarily draws on the concept of the mediatization of religion. A qualitative content analysis was employed in this research. In this regard, the researcher observed several TikTok and Instagram accounts that feature Islamic relationship content and analysed narrative messages, videos, captions, sound effects, and user reactions in the comment sections of those accounts. The findings of this study show that the Islamic relationship theme has emerged as a new alternative to traditional da’wah topics. This shift is largely due to the theme’s social relevance for social media users. Furthermore, Islamic relationship content serves as a counter-narrative to the trend of casual relationships that are increasingly popular among younger generations. This content also constructs and presents an imagined profile of the ideal romantic partner according to Islamic values.

Abstract

This research aims to find out how PCNU Bantul Regency utilizes the Da'wah Movement through NU Coin. This research is a descriptive qualitative research with a case study approach, the research location is PCNU Bantul Regency and focuses on four MWC NU. Data collection techniques are observation, interview, and documentation. The results of the research are: First, PCNU Bantul Regency conducts socialization activities to the community about the NU Coin program through religious activities (read: Pengajian, Tahlilan, Yasinan, Manaqiban, etc.), socialization activities also through brochures/pamphlets as well as online and offline mass media by involving various elements of society and government at the regional to village level. Second, the proceeds from NU Coin are used for the benefit of Islamic propagation ranging from community empowerment and, construction of public facilities and infrastructure including religious, social, health, and economy to education in Bantul Regency. The obstacle is the emergence of prejudice from some negative people towards the direction of the use of NU Coin, so they choose to make donations and alms independently.
