Abstract

Adolescent girls are prone to infections of the reproductive organs during menstruation, this can occur if they do not perform good menstrual hygiene. This study aims to determine the determinants of adolescent personal hygiene behaviour during menstruation at SMPN X Jakarta in 2024. This study used a cross-sectional design with stratified random sampling technique. The total population was 429 in all classes VII, VIII and IX, with a sample size of 94 who met the inclusion criteria. Data collection used a questionnaire instrument that was filled in directly by the respondent. Descriptive data analysis uses frequency counts and percentages, while relationship analysis with the chi-square test with a degree of significance of 5%. The results of the research data showed that more than half behaved well on personal hygiene during menstruation 79 students (84%), had high knowledge 72 students (76.6%), thought that Water, Hygiene and Sanitation (WASH) facilities were adequate during menstruation as many as 55 students (58.5%), and received peer support 62 students (66%). The results of the relationship test stated that there was a significant relationship between personal hygiene behaviour and the variables of knowledge (p value= 0.045) and peer support (p value= 0.044), but there was no significant relationship on the variable of school facilities related to water, hygiene, and sanitation (p value= 0.874). It is recommended that there should be a continuous health programme between increasing knowledge and increasing peer support, so that the problem of female reproductive organ hygiene can be resolved.

Abstract

Background: Adolescent anemia is likely to increase from 2007 to 2023 with various factors causing anemia, the main one being low iron intake. Supplemental intake has been carried out by government intervention since ten years ago, but the program has not been thoroughly evaluated in terms of knowledge, attitude and peer support factors on adolescents adherence to taking supplemental blood tables. Methods: The study design used was a cross-sectional study in which direct interviews were conducted using gform during school learning time. The sampling technique adjusts the population of women aged 15-19 who have menstruated with a total population of 140 students. Data processing and analysis used statistical software where characteristic data were presented in the form of numbers and percentages, followed by relationship analysis with the chi-square test. Results: The percentage of students who were not compliant with taking blood supplement tablets was 107 (76.4%). Determinant factors that have a relationship with adherence to blood tablet consumption are the sense of side effects (p = 0.009, PR = 3.14) and family support (p = 0.011, PR = 3.05), while the factors of knowledge, refusal, motivation, teacher support and peer support do not have a direct relationship with adherence to blood tablet consumption. Conclusion: Vocational school students have a low level of adherence. Factors supporting non-adherence were perceived side effects and family support.

Abstract

HIV/AIDS remains a significant global health issue, particularly affecting adolescents who are vulnerable to risky behaviours due to limited accurate knowledge. This study aimed to analyse the differences in adolescents’ knowledge about HIV/AIDS before and after a health education intervention at SMAN xx West Jakarta in 2025. A quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-test–post-test approach was employed. The study was conducted from February to March 2025, involving 100 students selected through non-random sampling. Data were collected using a digital questionnaire via Google Forms, covering topics on diagnosis, symptoms, transmission, and prevention of HIV/AIDS. Data analysis was performed using univariate (frequency and percentage) and bivariate analysis with a paired t-test. The results showed that prior to the intervention, most respondents had a moderate level of knowledge, but misconceptions persisted, particularly regarding modes of transmission and prevention. After the health education session, the mean knowledge score increased significantly (p < 0.05), indicating the effectiveness of the intervention in enhancing students’ understanding. Age, gender, and parental education were found to influence the level of knowledge. These findings highlight the importance of regular HIV/AIDS education programs in schools to strengthen adolescents’ health literacy, reduce stigma toward people living with HIV/AIDS, and prevent risky behaviours.
