Abstract

Wind turbine is one of the technology to produce elctricity. Wind turbine consists of wind blade, nacelle, hub and tower. Hub is the structure which connect wind blade to the shaft of the generator to generate electricty.Nacelle is the structure that cover the generator from its environment. Nacelle is not design for strength, so there in no stress analysis for this structure. The purpose of this research is to design and make prototype for hub and nacelle. There are three models for hub, slot model (2 design) and lap joint design, and 1model for nacelle design. hub is selected by the simplicity of process of production and assembly, and by stress analysis. Then the lap joint design is the selected one, so that will be make for prototype. The prototype is made of composite sandwich structure, which is teak wood as its core. The composite sandwich structures is designed for its stiffness criteria.

Abstract

Nodular cast iron is the cast iron that has nodular graphite spherical structure distributed in ferrite or pearlite matrix or in both of them. Recently, this material is used widely in industries because its low cost and better performance. The advanced metal industries nowadays have found some new technologies in order to improve the properties of materials. One of them is the addition of another elements into the base metals, such as nickel. The effects of the addition 1wt %, 2wt % and 3wt % nickel into nodular cast iron 50 on tensile and hardness properties were investigated in this study. The experimental results show that the best amount of nickel that added into nodular cast iron is 3% wt, which has the best tensile and hardness properties

Abstract

Natural fiber reinforced polymer composites are widely developed because of their relative low price and eco-friendly. One of natural fiber sourches is pandanus tectorius leaf.  This study aimed to determine the effect of variations in fiber volume fraction on tensile strength, impact strength, bending strength and morphological on sea pandanus fibers- polypropylene composites.Tensile test spesimen refer to ASTMD 638, impact test spesimen refes to ASTMD 5942-96, bending test spesimen refer to ASTMD 790 -02. The increasing of the volume fraction increased  the tensile strength and impact strength. The tensile test results showed the highest tensile strength results for composites with a volume fraction of 35% was 25.82 MPa. The impact test results showed that the highest impact strength was obtained in the 35 % volume fraction of 0.0062 Joule/mm2. The bending test results showed that the highest bending strength was obtained in the 20% volume fraction of 24.96 MPa. Based on SEM test results, there were voids, cracks, fibers pull out on the composite.

Abstract

The air-zinc battery uses oxygen from the atmosphere to produce electrochemical energy. After opening the battery into the air, oxygen diffuses into the cell and is used as cathode reagent. The air passes through the cathode to the active surface of the interior cathode in contact with the electrolyte liquid, namely sea water. On the active surface, the air cathode catalytically encourages the reduction of oxygen in the electrolyte liquid. This study aims to determine the effect of zinc anode on air batteries that are in direct contact with activated carbon as a source of electrical energy and find out the influence of electrolyte of seawater as an alternative source of electrical energy in air batteries. The research method uses Volta cells. Other advantages are safety and ecological benefits and low energy costs, as well as maximum power capability on environmentally friendly tolerance. In this study four salinity salinity was used, namely salinity of 3.56%, salinity of 3.99%, salinity 4.60% and salinity 5.02%. The results obtained are the highest voltage 1.144 Volt and the highest current of 4.85 mA is found in salt water salinity 5.02%.
