Abstract

This study investigates the historical foundations of interreligious tolerance between Muslim and Christian communities in Indonesia and examines their relevance to the Hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad. By tracing key moments of Islamic-Christian encounters—from the early spread of both religions in the archipelago to the colonial and post-independence periods—the article identifies sociocultural and theological factors that have sustained peaceful coexistence. Special attention is given to prophetic traditions (Hadiths) that advocate principles of compassion, justice, and respect for religious diversity. The findings suggest that these Hadiths not only reinforce Indonesia’s longstanding tradition of pluralism but also offer normative guidance for strengthening interfaith relations in contemporary society.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of online da'wah on the religious life of the community in Sukaraja Subdistrict, Medan Maimun, in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic. The phenomenon reflects a shift in community preferences for acquiring religious knowledge, from traditional sermons to social media as the primary source of religious information. The research focuses on the extent to which online da'wah influences the understanding and practice of religion among local residents. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method with a phenomenological approach to religion. It is a field research utilizing in-depth interviews, documentation, and analysis of articles relevant to online da'wah. The collected data is analyzed to understand how the community uses social media in their religious lives. The findings indicate that online da'wah has a significant impact on the religious life of the Sukaraja community. People find it easier to understand religious teachings through online media compared to traditional sermons like mass gatherings. The positive effects of online da'wah include improved understanding of previously unclear worship practices, reduced engagement in negative behaviors such as gossiping, and increased interest in sharing da'wah content such as videos, motivational quotes, Qur’anic verses, and hadiths. However, the use of online da'wah must remain grounded in the Qur’an and Hadith and must avoid provocation or hate speech. The study concludes that online da'wah plays a major role in supporting the community’s understanding and practice of religion, particularly by providing accessible and relevant alternative learning sources for the modern society.

Abstract

The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) is one of the Islamic-based political parties in Indonesia with strong ideological roots, often associated with transnational Islamic da'wah movements, especially the Muslim Brotherhood from Egypt. This study aims to analyze the Islamic movement ideology promoted by PKS in Medan Polonia. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach through interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that PKS remains committed to Islamic values as its ideological foundation while exhibiting pragmatic and moderate strategies in local political contexts. PKS integrates da'wah with political and social activities through tarbiyah-based approaches, community service, and interpersonal communication. The transformation from an exclusive da'wah movement to an inclusive political party illustrates PKS's adaptability in facing the dynamics of Indonesian democracy.

Abstract

Religious moderation is a religious approach that emphasizes moderation, tolerance, and respect for differences. In the world of education, this approach is important for shaping the character of students who are peaceful and inclusive. The Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia has responded to the challenges of intolerance and radicalism by introducing the idea of the Love Curriculum, an approach that integrates the values of love into the learning process. This curriculum is based on four main pillars: love for God, fellow human beings, the environment, and the homeland. Not as a new subject, the Love Curriculum is designed to incorporate values of love into all subjects and interactions within the educational environment. This article uses a literature review approach to educational policies, religious writings, and academic research findings to analyze how the Love Curriculum can serve as a preventive strategy against radicalism. The review results indicate that internalizing the value of love in the curriculum has the potential to create a peaceful school culture, strengthen national identity, and minimize religious exclusivity. However, implementing the Love Curriculum requires teacher readiness, adequate training, and support from a harmonious educational ecosystem. Thus, the Love Curriculum is an important innovation in strengthening religious moderation in Indonesian education.

Abstract

Secularism, which comes from the Latin word 'saeculum' meaning age, is an ideology that separates religion from government affairs and public life. In the West, secularism emerged in response to the domination of the church and the suppression of freedom of thought during the Middle Ages. This ideology is growing rapidly along with the advancement of science and technology, which is often contrary to religious dogma. Secularism in the West has various models, such as the French model that emphasizes the total separation between religion and the state, as well as the AngloAmerican model that emphasizes more on the neutrality of the state in religious affairs. This article examines the history, causal factors, and impacts of secularism in the West, as well as how this ideology affects the social, political, and cultural life of Western societies. Keywords: Secularism, West, Separation of religion and state.

This type of research is field research using a religious history approach, trying to see the process of development that occurred in the Sikh religion. The results of these findings show that the spread of the Sikh religion in Indonesia can be said to be growing with an increasing number of adherents. evidenced by several buildings of houses of worship for the Sikh religion, namely Gurdwara Shree at several points in Medan City including, Gurdwara Perbhandak on Jalan Teuku Umar, Gurdwara Shree Guru Tegh Bahadur area on Jalan Polonia and Gurdwara Shree Guru Nanak Dev Ji on Jalan Karya Murni. Factors causing the Sikh religion to continue to grow are because the Sikh religion does not recognize caste which results in social inequality for its adherents. Moreover, the Sikh religion is able to live side by side in the midst of the majority.

Abstract

Every soul in the human person have great  curiosity about a substance that created them or a substance that is believed to have power which can also be interpreted as a ruling spirit. Therefore, various views arose regarding what is called primitive belief or religion. The history of the emergence of primitive religion is increasingly being discussed by thinkers in modern to postmodern times because the emergence of religion often becomes a science used as research material by academics. Various theories were put forward as material for finding factual data related to the early emergence of primitive religion. The method used in this study is the library study method, the data obtained through books, journals or research related to the reconstruction of primitive religious theory. This study uses an anthropological approach to religion which seeks to understand religion by examining forms of religious practice that grow and develop in the life of primitive society. The results of the research reveal the reconstruction of primitive religious theories, various forms of primitive religion, theories that gave rise to primitive religious beliefs, and the characteristics of primitive religious adherents to the reconstruction of views on primitive religion. The result of this discussion is that the theory regarding the emergence of primitive religion put forward by Eastern scientists often encounters many disputes with the ideas of Western Orientalists. Most western orientalists assume that primitive religion emerged at the very beginning of human civilization itself, although there are several western theories which say that what is meant by primitive humans is a society far from civilization. This proves the importance of studying the reconstruction of primitive religious theory in the postmodern era.
