Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of Ambon banana peel extract (Musa Paradisiaca var. sapientum (L.) Kunt) and bean sprout extract (Flammulina velutipes) on the growth of granola potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) in vitro. This research was conducted in July-September 2023 at the G10 Agro Tech Medan tissue culture laboratory. In this study, potato plants were grown on Murashige and Skoog (MS) media combined with Ambon banana peel extract and bean sprout extract, using a completely randomized design (CRD) research design, with four treatments and three replicates with a concentration consisting of 4 levels, namely Ambon banana peel extract 0 g/l, 20 g/l, 40 g/l and 60 g/l and bean sprout extract, namely 0 g/l, 20 g/l, 40 g/l and 60 g/l. The observation parameters in this study were the number of roots, number of shoots, number of leaves and plant height. The data obtained were analyzed using Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and on different treatments, Duncan's multiple range test (DMRT) was conducted. The results of the analysis after the 4th observation week after planting (WAP) showed that the treatment of the addition of Ambon banana peel extract and bean sprouts had a significant effect on the number of roots, number of shoots, number of leaves and plant height. The best number of roots was produced by the combination of KP60T40 (60 g/l Ambon banana peel extract + 40 g/l bean sprouts extract) which was 10 root fibers. The number of shoots produced by KP60T20 (60 g/l Ambon banana peel extract + 20 g/l bean sprout extract) is 15.67 shoots. The highest number of leaves is KP20T20 (Ambon banana peel extract 20 g/l + bean sprout extract 20 g/l) which is 14 leaves and the treatment combination on plant height is produced by KP20T60 which is 13.67 cm. So it can be concluded that organic media of Ambon banana peel and bean sprouts can be used as alternative media because it gives a real influence on the growth of granola potatoes in vitro.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the lack of alternative technology-based learning media other than Powerpoint in the tissue culture lecture process and the difficulty of biology education students in understanding technique-based tissue culture material due to the absence of a tissue culture laboratory. Given these problems, researchers developed digital comic learning media equipped with factual videos to help students understand the material well. This research aims to (1) produce appropriate and effective learning media based on digital comics based on the assessment of material experts. (2) produce appropriate and effective learning media based on digital comics based on the assessment of media experts. (3) produce appropriate and effective learning media based on digital comics based on student responses to the tissue culture course, material on tissue culture techniques in callus culture. The development model used is the ADDIE model with research subjects of 26 biology education students. The development of digital comic learning media equipped with factual videos has met the validity and effectiveness criteria with the conclusion that the learning media is very good to use based on the results of the material expert validity questionnaire with a score of 90% and the media 83.16%. The effectiveness results obtained from the student questionnaire were 91.21% in small group trials.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has made a significant contribution to education, especially in improving the quality of the learning process. The study aims to develop and test the feasibility, student response, and effectiveness of using interactive Flipbook-based Biotechnology E-modules on Fermentation Technology material. The research was conducted in April-July 2025 at Medan State University using the ADDIE development model. The research instrument was an assessment questionnaire involving material experts, media experts, question experts, and students. The validation results showed that the developed E-module was rated very feasible by media experts (92.5%), feasible by material experts (78.5%), and very feasible by question experts (95.4%). The response of Biology Education Study Program students at Medan State University to the E-module was in the very good category with a percentage of 90%. The effectiveness test showed that the E-module developed had a high level of effectiveness with an N-Gain value of 0.71. These results indicate that the Biotechnology E-module on Fermentation Technology material is feasible to use as a learning media to improve student learning outcomes.
