Abstract

This aim of this study is to find whether the use of digital wordwall media can improve reading comprehension of the grade eight students of SMPN 19 PALU. This study used a quantitative approach, using a quasi-experimental design, this type of research design consists of two group namely experimental group and control group. The population of this study consists of all eighth-grade students at SMPN 19 Palu, totaling 110 students. The researcher employed random sampling, with a total sample of 54 student, 24 students from class D as the experimental group and 30 students from class A as the control group. Data collection in this study used tests in the form of pre-tests and post-tests. After analyzing the data, it was found that the average score of students in the experimental class increased from 47.87 in the pre-test to 69.04 in the post-test. In addition, the control class showed an increase in the average score from 46.86 to 55.36 within the same time frame. The results indicated that the t-test value (2.655) exceeded the critical t-value (1.675). The findings support the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis, indicating that the integration of digital wordwall media has a significant positive impact on students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether the effect of tongue twisters can improve the pronunciation of eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Lembo. A quasi-experimental design was employed with a sample of 64 students selected using random sampling techniques. Random sampling was chosen to reduce bias, produce a representative sample, facilitate statistical analysis, and allow for replicability of the research. Data were collected through writing tests administered twice as pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was given to the experimental group before the treatment, while the post-test was administered afterward. The researcher collected and analyzed the data using the formula proposed by (Cohen et al., 2007) and SPSS 22. The results indicated a significant improvement in the pronunciation scores of the experimental group, with a pre-test average of 51.56 and a post-test average of 77.97. In contrast, the control group showed a smaller improvement. The Mann-Whitney test revealed a significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.05), indicating that innovative teaching methods can enhance students' pronunciation skills. These findings suggest integrating interactive activities into English language teaching, and training for teachers is necessary to implement this method effectively. The study also opens up opportunities for further exploration of other variations of games in teaching pronunciation.

The researcher selected the sample by using a purposive sampling technique. The sample of this research was the students of X E7 consisting of 36 students. The technique of data collection used instrument tests (pre-test and post-test). The experimental class was treated by applying the Comic Strip. The result of the data analysis shows that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test. The researcher found that the t-counted (3.33) was higher than the t-table (2.021). It means that the hypothesis was accepted. In conclusion, Comic Strip effective to improve the speaking skills of the tenth-grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Palu.
