Abstract

The low learning interest of students in river ecosystem material at MA Al-Qodiri Jember is caused by monotonous learning processes and limited use of concrete learning media. Therefore, an Eco-Hack-based diorama learning media was developed by utilizing environmentally friendly materials and presenting a real visualization of river ecosystems. This study aimed to describe the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the Eco-Hack-based river ecosystem diorama learning media in improving the learning interest of tenth-grade students at MA Al-Qodiri Jember. This study used a Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE development model consisting of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. Data collection techniques included interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The effectiveness test used a one-group pretest-posttest design. The results showed that the developed learning media was valid, with media expert validation of 80.21%, material expert validation of 85%, language expert validation of 93.33%, and practitioner expert validation of 93.75%. The media was also considered very practical based on student response results of 91% in the small group trial and 91.7% in the large group trial. In addition, the media was proven sufficiently effective in increasing students’ learning interest, indicated by a Sig. value of 0.000 < 0.05 and an N-Gain score of 0.5105 or 51.05%, categorized as moderately effective. Therefore, the Eco-Hack-based diorama learning media is feasible for use in Biology learning on river ecosystem material.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of using the Cells at Work! film based on the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model on students’ conceptual understanding and learning interest in Grade XI students at MAN 1 Jember on the immune system topic. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group design. The sample consisted of an experimental class and a control class selected using the cluster random sampling technique. Data were collected through conceptual understanding tests (pretest and posttest), learning interest questionnaires, observation sheets, and documentation. The results showed that the use of the Cells at Work! film based on CTL had a significant effect on students’ conceptual understanding with a significance value of 0.001 (<0.05) and an experimental class posttest mean score of 97.91, which was higher than the control class score of 94.26. In addition, it significantly influenced students’ learning interest with a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05) and an average learning interest score of 88.34, higher than the control class score of 82.18. Therefore, the implementation of the Cells at Work! film based on CTL effectively improved students’ conceptual understanding and learning interest in the immune system topic.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and determine the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of a Canva-assisted digital comic based on Guided Inquiry as a biology learning medium for Grade XI students at MAN 1 Jember. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model consisting of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Data were collected through interviews, observations, expert validation, student response questionnaires, and learning outcome tests (pretest–posttest). Data were analyzed using percentage analysis, the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, and N-Gain analysis. The results showed that the developed media achieved an average validity score of 94.04% categorized as highly valid, a practicality score of 88.16% categorized as highly practical, and effectiveness results indicating improvement in students’ learning outcomes with an N-Gain score of 0.85 (highly effective category). The Wilcoxon test also showed a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating a significant difference between learning outcomes before and after media implementation. Therefore, the Canva-assisted digital comic based on Guided Inquiry is feasible and effective to be implemented as a biology learning medium.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low learning interest of tenth-grade students at MA Fathus Salafi Situbondo in biodiversity lessons due to the limited availability of engaging, contextual, and student-centered learning media. The study aimed to determine the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of a biodiversity puzzle based on local sugarcane varieties from PT Sinergi Gula Nusantara Wringin Anom in improving students' learning interest. This research employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, consisting of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The research subjects included expert validators, a biology teacher, and tenth-grade students of MA Fathus Salafi Situbondo. Data were collected through interviews, validation sheets, practicality questionnaires, and learning interest questionnaires, and analyzed using validity and practicality percentages, normality testing, Paired Sample t-test, and N-Gain analysis. The results indicated that the developed puzzle achieved a valid to highly valid category based on expert evaluations. The practicality test showed scores of 91.23% in the small-scale trial and 80.70% in the large-scale trial, indicating that the media was practical. Furthermore, the Paired Sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), while the N-Gain score reached 0.85, categorized as highly effective. Therefore, the biodiversity puzzle based on local sugarcane varieties is valid, practical, and highly effective for enhancing students' learning interest.
