Abstract

Introduction: As age increases, the risk factors for experiencing lower back pain also increase. In addition, the length of time and duration of work also play a role in causing lower back pain. Lower back pain is also caused by degeneration of the discs and facet joints in the spine, especially in the lumbar region, which can lead to pressure on the intervertebral foramen resulting in osteophyte formation that can cause irritation and pain. This condition is referred to as lumbar spondylosis. Lumbar spondylosis is a degenerative condition that can cause chronic pain in the back, characterized by abnormal bone growth or osteophytes, thinning of the intervertebral discs, and narrowing of the space between vertebrae, which leads to pain and functional disturbance in the lower back. Objective: to evaluate the effectiveness of the combination of TENS and core stability exercise in reducing pain and increasing muscle strength in patients with lumbar spondylosis. The method used in this study is a case study of a patient diagnosed with lumbar spondylosis to undergo TENS intervention and core stability exercises for six therapy sessions, conducted twice a week. The results of the study indicate that the combination of TENS and core stability exercise resulted in a decrease in pain using the VAS scale and an increase in lumbar muscle strength. Keywords: Core stability exercise, TENS, Lumbar spondylosis.

Abstract

Introduction: Post-stroke is a neurological condition that can cause motor impairments, muscle weakness, coordination disorders, and decreased walking ability. In elderly post-stroke patients, impaired walking speed is one of the most common functional problems that may affect daily activities. Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation (RAS) is a physiotherapy intervention that uses rhythmic auditory cues to help improve gait pattern and walking speed in patients. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation in improving walking speed in elderly post-stroke patients. Methods: This study used a case study method on an elderly post-stroke patient who experienced decreased walking speed. Physiotherapy intervention using Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation was administered for 6 therapy sessions over a period of 3 weeks. Walking ability was measured using the 10 Meter Walk Test to assess the patient’s walking speed before and after the intervention. Results: Showed an improvement in the patient’s walking speed after the Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation intervention. The walking speed increased from 0.75 m/s at the initial evaluation to 1.25 m/s at the final evaluation after 6 therapy sessions. Conclusion: Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation was effective in improving walking speed in elderly post-stroke patients. This intervention can be used as one of the physiotherapy modalities to improve functional walking ability in post-stroke patients.
