Abstract

Music is one of a type of instrument that people like to hear nowadays. Inside of music, there is also a part of a lyric that combined together in one of a song which can bring a meaning to its listeners.  Furthermore, this lyric also can be explained by an analysis using a linguistics approach and one of that is a semiotics. In here, the semiotics aspect can be used by a theory from Roland Barthes which is he has three approaches to analyze it in form of semiotics aspect: denotation, connotation, and myth. In this study, the researcher using a song titled “Die with a Smile”, sung by Bruno Mars feat Lady Gaga that is popular among society in a YouTube platform and analyze its lyrics to find an emotional aspect meaning behind its song. In this study, the researcher uses a method of qualitative descriptive. For the data analysis, the data consists of the lyrics that are separated into 5 parts and each part will analyze its denotation and connotation. Afterwards, the researcher find its myth aspect which is related with an emotional aspect that occur in the lyrics. The result of this research occurs that from 5 parts of the lyrics that already analyzed using Roland Barthes semiotics theory, almost of that parts contain of emotional aspect in love and someone the person that one caring which is very important to his or her life.

Abstract

banyaknya budaya di Indonesia, salah satu simbol budaya yang melekat di dalam masyarakat Indonesia adalah batik dan sudah menjadi identitas budaya Indonesia yang digunakan di dalam berbagai aspek kegiatan masyarakat. Dari sekian banyaknya batik yang ada, batik Lasem adalah contoh batik yang sudah menjadi makna simbolik budaya serta memiliki perpaduan antara dua budaya di Indonesia. Untuk itu, batik Lasem juga digunakan oleh publik figur Indonesia sebagai alat komunikasi antar budaya yang cukup efektif di media digital. Selain itu, teori analisis semiotika dari Roland Barthes juga memaparkan terdapat makna dari batik Lasem yang digunakan oleh publik figur sebagai alat komunikasi antar budaya di lingkup masyarakat.

Abstract

Poetry is not only a form of creative writing. This literary works also can be used as an act to share an idea and come as an act of formation into the society. In this case, Phillis Wheatley as an African-American woman wrote “On Being Brought from Africa to America” come as an agent of change of inequality in a part of racial issue. The poetry itself talking about her thoughts about religious aspect and also in her society which is segregation between White People and Black People. The research came up to analyze its language context from its poetry and find out a feminism representation through a literary works perspective. In this study, the researcher uses a qualitative descriptive approach to analyze the poetry. Furthermore, there are some aspects that can be concluded in this research after it is conducted. First in language context, it is found that the poetry “On Being Brought from Africa to America” affected based on external influence and religious imagery. Second in feminism aspect, this poetry represent women which Phillis Wheatley pass the three phases of tradition writing in a form by woman which lead creativity became an act of expression in social issue.
